Debt Dump by Manan

[raw]
made by Manan for LD 40 (JAM)

Plot

The value of the U.S. dollar has become negative. The government has switched from physical currency to physical debt. To tax citizens, the U.S. now simply sends them a bunch of physical debt dollars. Instead of illegally taking people's money, criminals now illegally give people money. You play as a criminal throwing debt dollars at people while trying not to get caught.

How To Play

Use the WASD keys to walk and left click to throw debt. Avoid throwing debt into the white circles around police officers. Throw all of your debt at other citizens to advance to the next level.

This is my first Ludum Dare game, so it is not very polished (understatement of the year). It should, however, be playable ;).

Note

Some of the textures on the title screen are messed up in the HTML5 version, so I recommend playing the desktop version if possible.

I did not make the music for this game. It belongs to Kevin MacLeod.

I liked the concept of the game and the audio, especially the sound effects.
I also liked that there is a level progression.

The controls felt a bit off at times (maybe because I played with a touchpad?)
, but otherwise great work!

The concept and plot of the game is amazing. The controls WASD and mouse for direction felt weird, although one can get used to it after a while.

Congratulations on making the game!

I had a lot of trouble with the controls. At one point I thought they were simply reversed, but then it seemed like that wasn't the case to me. The concept of forcing debt onto people was definitely fun. =)

Graphics are nice. Other than that I didn't enjoy it much. The controls were pretty bad. Even once I finally understood them they didn't seem responsive at all. The concept is cool though.

The controls were a little awkward, I ultimately just used W to walk toward the cursor at all times. This fits the theme pretty well though.

Started having trouble I think around level 5 because the US became (more of) a police state with more law enforcement than manageable, haha. I liked the crime caper mood, and the sudden switch to the police chase music when they spotted you.

The idea for the game is funny and makes me wonder if getting out of debt would really be that easy. lol However, like others have mentioned, the controls did not feel right, meaning movement. It feels like the character moves in local space rather than world space. Take a look at this, if you haven't already, it may address this issue real quick: https://docs.unity3d.com/ScriptReference/Transform.TransformDirection.html You'll need to use the main camera for this. (which ever your active camera is) a solution often use is "Camera.main.transform.TransformDirection()"

Funny idea, shooting "money" at people. I found the control scheme really difficult to work with though. It was also hard to tell why the cops where casing me? I thought the circles where their detection zone, but a few times they seem to notice when I didn't expect them too.
