Flavo Submarine - Ashes to Ashes by Thirrash

[raw]
made by Thirrash for LD 40 (JAM)

Death Ocean has always been a battlefield. Currently, it's filled with bodies of countless miserable sailors. Not every one was a saint though and these people do not belong in Heaven...

Your job as a holy commander of Flavo Submarine is to throw the bodies into the depths of Hell for some extra cash. But beware - there are tons of military weapons still lingering around! And the more money you have, the easier it is for them to find you...

I found it a bit hard to pick up the carts. I could throw out the chain, and a few times I managed to pickup a cart. Though mostly I failed and the few times I picked it up I didn't really manage to deliver any poor souls. It was kind of fun to just go around the place, avoid torpedoes, or not avoid torpedoes . The graphics were nice. The corrals and the sea floor.

I give it 5 out of 5 for the music alone. Wonderful experience, I really felt as if I was throwing dead bodies to Hell. The rope mechanics are very unique, I guess you all had to show great teamwork in order to implement it!

Really nice ambient feel. In the beginning there was a bit too much text, felt overwhelming. Maybe a progressive approach would be nice

It was pretty nice moving around and playing with the chains, pretty interesting way of interpreting the theme as well!
Although it was kinda hard to pick up the carts, and after 4-5 times I used the chains, I could not throw them anymore. As mess pointed it out, the texts were a bit too much, sometimes an icon is enough to understand what the UI stands for, like for the life or the fuel for example. :)

Kind of a weird game, but nice chain mechanics.

Overall a weird but entertaining game. I like the chain mechanic and it has some nice graphics considering the time at your disposal. I have a few notes though: I found it very difficult to see when torpedos and bombs are gonna hit me and I found it difficult to pick up wagons with the chain. I also kept running into a bug where I couldn't spawn another chain

I like the music! Very unsettling.
After a few throws of the chain I couldn't throw them anymore. I don't know if there is only a limited amount or what? I like the way the chain looks though.

Top points for the mood ! And very unsettling situation. I really loved the contrast between the glowing crater, peaceful sea life, sot but sad music, and the horrible carts filled with corpse. However, the controls where a bit too painful for me to fully appreciate the experience.
I was an experience I'll remember though.

Thank you for all feedback! We are really glad that you took your time and played our game, even if only for a minute :p
Unfortunately, it seems that there is indeed a little bug in chain throwing mechanics. Of course, LD is over and it wouldn't be proper to fix it before voting ends so please forgive us ;)

The idea is very unusual and interesting. I liked models in your game, but gameplay seemed to me a little boring. Maybe because mines and torpedoes cause very little damage. By the way, I did not understand how to refuel and repair. So I did not understand why I need money. But drawing damage when approaching the border of the map seems to me not a very good decision in this game. The same applies to the visible edges of the landscape model. It may be better to make infinitely high rocks around the map and to limit the ascent to the surface by the inscription "You are a servant of hell, aren't you? You can not be on the surface". And the radar looks incomprehensible, perhaps it is worth reducing the size of the markers on it.

Anyway, your thought about collecting corpses of sailors on the submarine for Hell sounds very cool! I think, gameplay just needs some polishing. Great job!

I liked the idea but playing this wasn't fun at all sadly. Controls felt clunky and things you have to do in the game didn't seem like fun activities.

I would have played this longer if I could have muted the music. Weird game, but I like submarines.
