Let's Not Make This Weird by mjomble

[raw]
made by mjomble for LD 41 (JAM)

Hacking meets crafting meets procedural generation meets deck building (a deck of floppy disks, that is).

And for your ears, cyperpunk meets reggae.

As software developers, we are sick and tired of movies and games that depict hacking using meaningless technobabble.

So we decided to make a game with 100% realistic hacking. And floppies!

Wow, I sure know a lot more about hacking than I did 10 minutes ago.

The game was really fun to play and the story, audio and graphics were well done. My only problems with the gameplay were that it took too many side missions to get items for the main mission(sometimes I did 5+ missions without getting any required parts) and that you could spam the floppies mindlessly(the other parts were useless).

Very well done! So realistic hacking :)
Love the audio and graphics. Narrative is really good.

Fun game with an interesting premise. The text based dialogue was humorous, the graphic style was simple and consistent, and the audio was dope! I agree with what @siimer said about taking a lot of side missions to get items for the main mission but there isn't much time for balancing during the jam so that's something that could be worked on if you guys pursue the game further. I enjoyed it - good job guys!

Haha, I like the idea, and the instructions were funny (and accurate to what actually happens in films :P) I liked the shape-puzzle that underalyed the game, but I did think it could get a bit grindey when you were trying to get the tiles you needed. Promising prototype though, good entry!

Great job on the humor and audio, I loved playing this. It got a bit annoying after a while though, as I was always lead onto the path of not having enough parts. The game really punishes you for misclicks. Oh, and there was a missing word in a message I believe. It should have said 'database', but didn't, and I had to look at the color of the chips.

I really liked it but I think the audio didn't really suit the style of the game.

Fun with references, I'm glad we're all watching the same youtube compilations of the worst computer related dialogue.

Wow, guys. Wonderful game. Immersion to the world of hacking of the 80th years has taken place successfully. Both music and grafics perform well. Very atmospheric and addictive.

Just for kicks I uploaded our mission display system to https://jargon.netlify.com/ Now you can get your dose of hackity sounding words without having to actually play the game
