Learning with Mr. Bear by Nessa

[raw]
made by Nessa for LD 41 (JAM)

Having a hard time learning math? Well what if a stuffed bear threathend to kill you if you fail math class, would it be easier learning then? Yea we thought so...

We present to you Learning with Mr. Bear, an educatinol horror game where you solve math questions by walking around in the dark and finding glowing numbered cubes and bringing the right one to Mr. Bear.

This is our first Ludum Dare and it has been soo much fun! We are a couple studying Game Design at the univeristy and our dream is to make games together in the future.

All feedback is appreciated!

Also...excuse the bad voice acting.

Enjoy!

The voice acting... I LOVE IT! Overall the creepy atmosphere, jumping toys and math! What else do you need from a horror game :D Really enjoyable.

Really good aesthetic design with the bright glowing cubes contrasting with the silhouettes, but I think it's a bit too dark--when I get stuck in a corner, and everything is black, I don't know if I'm looking at the ceiling, the floor, or a wall, or if the lights just went out.

Also the voice acting's not THAT bad :)

That's a cool game ! :)
It could have been nice if there were a different punchline for every question solved and if there was some kind of twist at the end of the 9 questions !

WE HAVE VERY SIMILAR NAMING CONVENTIONS LOL

Graphics are really good and the setting is nice and spooky. A really good groundwork for what could eventually be a pretty memorable game with some time spit and polish

Fun choice of genres! Nice graphics and funny voice acting. Didn't like the mechanics of picking up a box and turning around though; the mouse movement felt a bit rough. And maybe the questions could become a bit harder as you progress.

The game played better than I expected! I liked the fact that you had to find the right cube - knowing the answer is one thing but then finding the darn thing added nicely to the tension. I will say I swear I brought a 7 cube back for one answer and when I placed it the thing turned into a 6 and it failed me. Also a few times i had the block on his book and it didnt take and I had to pick it up again and move it around a bit more. But over all decent!

I saw a horror game mixed with children's game genre coming, and here it is! The execution is pretty darn good. I love the graphics! I do wish you had used a voice filter or a better voice actor, but that's okay. It's dang innovative (There's a reason that you're innovating here. Nobody does this professionally), and matches the theme almost perfectly!

Good job, and good luck!

When I hear this nasty bear voice, I really get a chilling on my skin. Brr.. Or maybe it was music? Children will be happy run to the school, to avoid this lessons :)

Thoroughly creepy and weird, well done!

Suggestion: a bit more feedback (sound?) when you pick up the cube would be nice.

It detects a virus (Probably false positive), when I start playing the game, I cannot move, I cannot exit to main menu. Is this only happening to me? Because I think it has something to do with an antivirus...

@nikrod Unsure why that happened, the game is fully made in unity and blender so there should be no problems that we know of with viruses :/ Thanks for letting us know we will check out what the reason might be ^^

@Malmevik , since antiviruses are programmed to detect programs that are able to change code of other programs, so I believe it's not a virus, but something weird is being detected. Notify me when you figure out, I wanna try out your nice looking game.

Hey, I actually kept playing for the voice acting (the "tictoc tictoc haha" really brought a grin to my face !). The gameplay is great, I love the use of props and lighting to make retrieving the right cube more difficult, even if it looks like there are some collisions problems, and sometimes some small props combined with the low lighting produces a glitch-like effect. But on a design and artistical standpoint, this was top-notch. Thanks for the game !

I've actually never heard nor thought of the idea of a learning horror game.

Good job.

The movement and picking up could be polished a bit though.

The idea of combining learning and horror already made me laugh. The game itself did as well. Very well done! Great atmosphere, visuals and sound. Physics are a bit weird, but I can't really complain about that as it barely affected the gameplay. Also, good luck with your game design careers.

This was a pretty fun game to play, and the voice acting was really good. It could have been more scary, but I like it was not. Overall a super well made LD game. Well done.

This is an amazing idea to convince people to study, well done! The ambience is fantastic, the music, lights, scene are really well done to create a creepy feeling, even the smiling voice. The combination of generes is great, cute and dark. The mechanic is easy to understand and well balanced (the time given is enough to solve the problem and if you get lost for some reason you lose). In my opinion, the bad ending would be perfect if the bear had a more dark appearance or the scene become creepier, maybe something similar to the feeling that the Doki Doki Sayori "suprise" did
