The gods have chosen you to be their warrior!

They have blessed you with artifacts of immense power!

But what if you had to go against their will?

You might have to sacrifice power to save a member of your family, Fluffy the puppy.

Tech

  • Phaser 3, Typescript, ParcelJS, VSCode
  • Graphics drawn on the iPad with Pixaki
  • God portraits made with Pixel Art Cam on the iPad
  • Sounds recorded with an iPhone, edited with Audacity. Made with swinging a USB-cable, strumming a ukulele, banging a marker on different office objects
  • Music made with Reason, Novation Impulse 25, Steinberg UR22mkII

If you get badly stuck (and want to see the end of the story), press N to skip a level.

One known issue: Sometimes the character is already walking to a direction when a level starts. It seems that phaser is retaining the state of gamescenes, even if they are recreated and it thinks that the button is still being pressed. Weird.

UPDATE: I updated Phaser to 3.15.1 and it fixed the above known issue. Fix is deployed to the same URL, you can see from the sources that nothing else was done.

Fun platformer and a lot of content for a Ludum Dare game!

"Hoop Hop"... "Hop hop"
Very neat platformer! It's a bit sad it doesn't fit perfectly the theme, espacially with a story about conflicting goals, but I really liked the basic graphics and the sound design. It reminds me of the old, short flash games I played when I was little. The music is a bit repetitive though, but the sound effects are magic. I also liked the overreacting faces during the dialogues, I can see you had a lot of fun making this game. It warms me to see that. Good job!

Yeah, we were pondering "is it sacrifice, if there is no choice involved", but it basically boiled down to the fact that considering the time we had left the choice would've been "do you give up the power? yes/no" where "no" would lead to a game over instead of something more meaningful.

Cheers for playing and yes, we had a lot of fun making it

I really enjoyed this game and I thought the level design was really very good. They responded to the changing skills really well. Good work

Its simple, but its really enjoyable. In the beginning I was worried the shield was about to break the game, so I was really glad when abilities started to be taken away.

Really nice game. Like the previous comment I was concerned about the shield in the beginning, thinking "how is this even remotely balanced if i can always keep the shield up?", and just then you took it away. I like that removing powers forces you to change/adapt your play-style. I also think you managed a very good difficulty curve throughout the game, something that we usually struggle with (making our games too hard for new players).

Short but sweet platformer. The metroidvania formula is reversed here, your powers are taken away one by one. I really liked the level after you lost your double jump. The goal was in plain sight and reachable by double-jump in one second but of course you have to take a massive detour to get there because you don't have that power anymore ;)

I finished your game! Just a straight-forward platformer and it wasn't too challenging, but enough to keep me playing :) Well done!

Nice and solid game, I liked the graphics and controls. It's also not too long for a ludum dare game. The controls were tight. It would be nice, to make the key Y do the same as Z, because on german keyboards these keys are switched in place^^

Nice game! At first I thought that

1) the shield would be OP scince you could always hold it up.

2) that there was no reason to use your punching ability scince the bow is much better.

Both of those points were adressed when my powers were taken away! Good job guys!

Great game, would love to see this being developed further, I had an issue with some of the tile sprites when you jump you can see lines in between them, but apart from that solid game. Great job!

@roka-josh Thanks for your feedback! Which browser did you experience the tile-issue on? I have experienced similar behavior on Edge.

The levels are great! Some parkour, some archery, some melee combat -- great combination! I was just wondering, is there an advantage in not constantly using the shield? The weather changes and particle effects are a cool touch, and I also love that the storyline is skippable :P
I love games where I can develop my own playing style, and this allows me to do that without requiring overly complicated controls. Great job!

Also please think about us poor QWERTZ keyboard users next time ;)

@phi You're right about the shield. As long as you have the shield you are pretty much invincible if you hold up the shield all the time. This would normally be a pretty much game breaking mechanic, but since we decided to take the shield away from player first, we decided that this is okay and it emphasizes the greatness of the powers he has received. :)

Truly, a heroic adventure. The excellent sfx and an inspiring soundtrack really motivated me to get to the end. The art is nice as well, and the combat is enjoyanle and simple. The jumping could be a bit tighter. Very good stuff nonetheless.
