made by Maloy Quinn for LD 41 (JAM)

A mixture of the Space-Invaders-style genre and the platformer genre. Earth's space fleet has been turned against it, as darkness consumes the planet. You, a small anti-air droid, must fight back the darkness by reactivating anti-air missile platforms. All levels are tested, and are beatable. Some are hard, but all can be beaten. Very cute game, I felt the gravity on the jump was a little much though.

Nice enemies. I liked tripedos and main character. Dark style game. Music is well choosen.
Sometimes, when I jump over a head of a tripedos, the cat-android jumped a lot, kind of exploit? But I could not master it, so I could not profit of that. Fun game.

Interesting combination! Focusing on both upside and right side is simple to understand and chanllenging on control. Though the jump is too long and difficult to control the height.

Nice game!! I dont know if this happens only to me but the blue bullets hit you from too far, everything else is so good, enjoyed the game.

I really liked the music. The game was really hard mostly due to the collision boxes being a bit to big it seems. Sometimes I would lose when it looked like I didn't touch the enemy at all.

A bigger Camera size would be nice, so I can see more whats going on. The jump feels good, but Im at the edge of the screen when I do it, so that makes it feel like Im loosing control. Also knowing whats coming ahead would be good. => Bigger camera size would be wonderful. Nice idea with space invaders + platformer and also nicely done!

Like the mood here! :) The music is very fitting to the overall style. This is a nice take on the theme :) The only problem I had was with jumps and enemy hit boxes. The player perhaps felt a bit too floaty, and since the enemies would appear quickly, and had large hit boxes, I would often die.

The Balrog seems to have a very broken collision. I'd also go for bigger enemy bullets, because those few white pixels came out of nowhere for me. Could you add some screenshots here? I'm not sure if my game is looking like it should, all zoomed in.

Fun concept in feeling helpless when you can only shoot up :D I think you pulled off the hybrid well.

@willowblade Thanks for the feedback! I think I kind of screwed up on colliders, to be honest. Next jam I'll be making an effort to do better in that area.
It's pretty zoomed in normally. This is to add to the pressure, as the goal is to reach the anti-air missiles as fast as possible. Here's what my game looks like:

Does it look more zoomed in than that? If so, I'm sorry I didn't optimize enough for adjusting screen size.
Edit: Fixed! It was an itch.io problem.

Nice use of the theme! I felt the jump was too floaty for the character just wiggling their legs, and I second that the Balrog has some funky collision. The player in your itch.io page feels like the camera is really zoomed in, but I'm not sure if that's my browser or how it embedded the player?

Otherwise you've got a solid concept and little game here! Good job!

@maloyquinn It is more zoomed in on my screen, yes, as described by @serpentworks-games which is the web build in Firefox on a full screen, so there shouldn't be any resolution problems. Oh well, I can place it better with the screenshots :D is the blurring of the main character intentional?

Very cute game! The art is rather charming.

I do think the jump was a bit too much though. If you could adjust your jump height based on how long your pressing the jump button, it'd go a long way to make the game feel tighter.

It also looked like the screen was a bit too zoomed in on the itch.io page? Not sure if that's intentional though.

Anyway good stuff!

@serpentworks-games @potondo @willowblade Thanks for all the feedback! Just updated the page to include a non-zoomed version

Just one thing I noticed, when you die it says "return to to menu" on the death screen, otherwise great game!
If you have the time, I would greatly appreciate it if you cold review my compo game!

@Danny88881 Is it not showing Retry on the death screen? It's supposed to show that as an option to choose a different level.
BTW, I checked out A Knight of Music and LOVE it! I'm especially humbled by the artistic style.
