Rolling Gears by ferfer957

[raw]
made by ferfer957 for LD36 (COMPO)
Description:
Did you know that gear systems were invented before Jesus was even born ? Neither did I !
In this game, you have to keep your gear rolling by dodging all the broken teeth of the main gear. The longer you can roll, the higher score you get !

Gameplay:
Up Arrow : move to the outer side of the gear
Down Arrow : move to the inner side of the gear

This game has been designed for phones, don't be surprised by the resolution ;)

You can find the game playable in browser at https://fernandveyrier.github.io/projects/rolling-gears
However, there is an issue with the sound, so you should try the Windows version for a better experience. Enjoy !

Great compo entry!

Really awesome work for just 48 hours. The music you made fits the game really well, and the audio reversing is an awesome touch that makes the game feel really polished.

Also a big fan of how smoothly the gear transformed.

If you decide to go with random colors again, try to keep the generator away from 100% saturation on anything. Pure red, green, or blue really start to hurt the eyes after staring for too long. Also kinda bugged me that the menu and replay buttons weren't perfect circles ._.

Iteresting concept but the fact that cogs teeth are different in size makes all other things irrelevant. It would be so much cooler if cogs had a perfect clutch with each other!

@Bogden Thanks a lot ! I'll keep that in mind for the colors, you are completely right. And for the buttons... My gimp skills are so bad that I can't even draw a circle ! Thanks for pointing that out x)

@Sun-Wukong Thanks for your feedback ! I wanted to have them fit perfectly but sadly I could not because of gameplay issues. That would be physically impossible to have big teeth and these two gears fitting each other. Maybe I'll redraw them someday ! ;)

Yeah would be great if the gears lined up better. Also noticed that the music stops when it does the reversal. An interesting take on the infinite runner. Seems like it could be a decent mobile game with a bit more polish.

Nice job! I got 137. The transition are really nice, and the idea is great! One interesting problem that I noticed was that the background moved to very bright shades of red during parts of the game. My display was so bright, and I had to focus on the gear as it sped up, so my eyes started watering from the intense color! I'm not sure if others have this problem, or if it's just me. But great job! This is an awesome entry!

I love the simplicity in the game mechanic. One critique, it starts out really slow, and doesn't feel like it gets faster quick enough. Definitely could be a great mobile pass-time if you polished it a bit.
