My first LD and "Combine 2 Incompatible Genres"

invitris-gameplay.gif

The original game idea was to bring Tetris influenced brick environment with completed-line clearing mechanics, focusing more on an arcade feeling of space shooter. Even containing flying enemy brick ships.

The partial prototype result has been questionable through the whole development time, I've had continuous feeling that this way of "combining two incompatible genres" just does not work, the game design is simply bad and prototype unplayable. With no time to start from scratch, I've had to carry on and make something out of it anyway.

Actually this iteration of the game is not bad, infinite runner meets tetris, i think that if you started with having this in mind could have been better, but nonethless very nice entry :)

I don't know what was happening with that existential crisis you seem to have had up there. The game's great. Sometimes it can be a bit annoying when it's a bit unfair, or when it accidental places 2 blocks, but I had a lot of fun with it, and it's incredibly polished. Very well done.

This game is outstanding. it does so much with so little, I was having hones simple fin so quickly. the music is greeeeat. If you add some difficulty settings, maybe even levels or modes, you got yourself a hit in the appstore. its the kind of game you could be playing for hours in the underground or bus to try to unlock the next thing or get the high score. Super well done! I always love giving great art scores to games that do minimalistic art perfectly :D

I like this a lot! However, I really hate the one shape template that requires shooting at both ends. I'd also not use the "square" shape as a bullet, because a lot of the things it just can't clear. Great audio, too.

Thank you all for such words. It is true that it can get unfair or easily lock you the way by just a simple mistake, or even too easy when you are just bored for a second and waiting on the other hand. I will give it some time and maybe really come back to it later to fix those things and find out how to properly control it with touches on phone :)

I really enjoyed this game, even tho I was bad at it. It's nearly perfect. Maybe add a menu, with a start and an exit button or something like that.

Very well polished and nice clean art style, I had fun playing this.

I would have liked to have a 'next block coming' indicator, and maybe feed the blocks to the player as a shuffled list rather than randomly picking each as I got in a situation where I had three square blocks in a row which was basically death :)

I think it would be interesting if each "wave" of blocks that comes at you allowed you to rinse them in some way for points- e.g. rather than just placing a single block down to get through the barrier, what could I do to build up that wave, or play more skilfully to get more points out of it?

I actually like this a lot and I have no complaints! Graphics were good, music was fun, and as @lerg said, it would be great on mobile. Once you get the hang of it it's really fun!
Good job!

Very good entry! I liked it a lot! The only thing is that the randomness of it all means that sometimes you don't have the time to even clear the first wave. So it could maybe start out slower and then increase in speed.

I don't get why you think it's a bad game design, it's pretty good. In fact I'm pretty sad that the difficulty curve is not well designed. We need time to apprehend this new mechanic and the game is unforgiving as soon as we start.

Slow down the spaceship in the beginning and you have a very good endless game that fit perfectly the theme.

This was an amazing game! And it has some great potential. I felt like it was going too fast but after playing a bit you get better and better at it. Good job!

The idea is super interesting, but the game is a bit difficult to play. Both the music and graphics is good, and both fits the game idea very well. Overall a very well made LD game. Well done.
