Saving Crying Bryan

This is a stealth game in which you save innocent hostages.!

3.png

Basic game information

The hostages follow you until you either get them to the safe place or you are spotted by guard. The more hostages you lead to exit at once, the longer the "chain" of people is created and the becomes difficulty harder. However, is reduces the level time.

4.png

There is a tutorial and three additional levels progressing in difficulty. After beating the level, the achieved time is uploaded to the central scoreboard and the player is provided with a plot of its relative position.

Controls

You use arrows to navigate, (S) to start, Q or ESC to exit. When you walk over the hostage, they join your train. Note that they can be loud and slow!

Pretty fun game! love the voice acting. visuals could use more work. i have 4:3 monitor and sprites looked a bit squashed. basically... "My maan"/10

Voice acting was on point! Nice concept, especially the fact that certain... (lookin at you fat guy) hostages have different effects. Great job!

Love the voice, graphics and idea! Great game. Also it may seem ez from the start but level 3 is really hard, man :D

The voices were definitely on point :D :D

Anyway, very nice piece of work, I like the puzzles and the way the mechanics are put together to offer some challenge. But I am definitely rating you high on humor :D

Graphics and music are nice.

Gameplay... uhh... I hate it when the fat guy starts smacking right next to the guard :D But yeah just as stated before. I like it :)

EDIT: Also... I am disappointed you did not make the woman refuse to follow you after she said "I'm vegan." ;)

Pretty fun and funny game. Insane voice acting. I do like the idea of how different characters have different negative effects, and also how having more hostages genuinely makes the game more difficult. The walk animation on "my man" man is also on point. Of course, there were some spazzing hostages and I got caught through a wall by a guard once.

@Gomango999 there's a little bug with the "seeing through wall", so sorry for it. We were completely new to pygame :) Glad you liked the game!

Good that you have multiple voice files for the same events. So it does not feel that repetetive. For my taste tooo much "...maaan" and stereotype characters. The chaining worked strange sometimes but that makes it more difficult so i like that.

Fun idea for a game, sorta reminded me of when I would play Monaco and trying to sneak around and not get seen. Audio was good, but I wasn't big on this type of humor. Controlling the game was good, though sometimes I would get stopped at the corner of a wall as I was moving through a doorway area, and it would get me caught.

Positive:
=> the Voices are really funny, I like a lot the " Not Again Man!" It's nice that you recorded the voice your self I think I really add a personal touch ;) .
=> The visual cues were very nice, I could see clearly the enemies were seeing and that overall make me think ahead of time and plan my moves. This way of the game communicating with the player made the remember the "Mark of the Ninja" and was clearly the thing I like the most in your game.
=> The level design is well done, with different types of enemies and hostages, this made me study the enemies behavior especially on the second level. The difficulty curve is also well balanced.

Less Positive:
=> The overall style of the game is a bit not well though, there is no clear vision about color palettes, style. The style of the characters seems to be different the style of the wall and floor and the art from the doors is a thing on its own. I think it would be great if the art was overall more consistent.

Pretty fun game with good controls and decent graphics, I liked the voice clips a lot, but the main song got on my nerves

Hmm, I brought back both hostages to the entry but the level didn't progress.

Both? I mean... I haven't finished the game myself because it got pretty hard at later levels but I haven't seen a level with just 2 hostages. Even the first level had 4 hostages to rescue

Great game! Personally I really enjoyed the sprites and I think the cartoony animations add a lot to the game's character. I would have liked a little more detail in the level tiles but the clutter makes up for it. The characters are a bit stereotypical but I think the humor works for a short game, and the voice acting really sells it for me. There are a few issues with hit detection and the level I couldn't get past with the ton of hostages seems impossible but I may just not be good enough. Overall very entertaining, good job!

@kramdar : A little advice if you want to try again - you don't have to take all the hostages at once :) kudos to @petr-belohlavek, our main level designer, who thought all this through.

@gyfis Thanks for the tip, the tutorial made it seem to me like they all had to be rescued at once!

@kramdar Damn, that's right, I think we should've mentioned this explicitly... well, good to remember for the next time :) thanks!

That voice acting!!! Had me laughing!! Besides that everything is really cool. Gameplay is simple, fits the theme, directions what to do are straightforward. Sprites are really nice. Can't say much, just a nice little gem!

Fun game! I had to run it from source because I didn't see a link to a mac build. I really like the idea, and the music/voices were great. I don't really have anything to say that you could improve other than just polish it up. Good job!

@jasperarmstrong Thanks for running from the source! I spent a day post-jam trying to bundle the game for os x and it didn't lead to any success unfortunately, even though the game itself runs smoothly when run from source. It's definitely something I'd like to follow-up should we use PyGame again!

I stop at level 3, it was really hard for me. The idea is good and it fits the theme pretty well. I have noticed some things that could improve the experience : the voice is a bit too loud and it surprised me the first time. But it's a good idea to do voice acting! :) The game is getting difficult really fast, too fast to me. I don't think the music really fits with the game, I'd like something more calm, something scary.

The tutorial was very useful. Nice voice acting even though it's a bit silly. Gameplay was challenging and a bit tricky. I got busted by a guard's light shining through a wall. I was expecting the vases lying around to break if I touched them. Could be a nice addition. The slowdown effect caused by some hostages was a nice variation. It was nice that you had multiple and varied levels. All in all, a solid game. Good job guys!

### What I liked
* The different characters with their funny voices
* the dynamism of movement
* Nice tutorial
* Fits the theme (I prefered to go one hostage by one :grin:)

### How to improve
* I retried level 3 at least 50 times !
* Better integrate the decor elements to the ... decor
* The guards light - beauty and precision (I know it is game jam)
* The rythmic music serves the gameplay but not the mood

Good job!

Tried to collect the poo. Wish items could be used to distract the guards, or like make a poo-slide for the fatty. Music, to my taste, is too fast for stealth action (which is the point, I get). Funny voices, but mixed feelings overall. Actually, I thought the guards sight area actually is showing how they fart! Which is fun: don't let the guards bust-fart you.

I really liked this game. The only thing I would have like to see is a bit smoother controls. Just my personal preference.

game felt it needed to fill up both my screens and didn't provide a resize option.
didn't fit correctly on my screen even with one screen turned off - had to go full screen to try
Don't care for all the profanity.
Had a few guard triggers that weren't clearly telegraphed.
