Education to survive by loonydrope

[raw]
made by loonydrope for LD 41 (JAM)

The world has changed, zombies are everywhere and humankind needs to be strong. This is why kids are prepared to face reality since elementary school.

Play as a little girl taking maths classes with a severe schoolmistress and dumb zombies!

[Update] After feedbacks, I changed the mathbox font so it can be more readable (see screenshots below) Both the updated version and the original can be found following the link to itch.io on this page.

-Every graphics is drawn by me with inkscape. -I borrowed the sound effects on free sound banks on the internet and worked on them with audacity, but the music track has been fully composed by me with Bosca Ceoil. I chose to be rated in Audio, even if all is not self made. Feel free to down vote if you do not agree, I can understand. -The game is made using godot engine 3.0

I didn't know my math was this weak! Those poor kids!
I found the game really fun! I wish the numbers were a bit bigger and fatter though, i had a hard time seeing the symbols and letters at times. (Stressful when a zombie is chewing on that kids head! :D)
Good job! I enjoyed it! ^^

good game, i would call it a bad game but it was totally cause of my terrible math skills. i loved the game and idea, maybe a consistent font would have been better? im not good at this feed back thing sorry XP

Thank you @Yrsela @fokof and @PandaCultist for trying my game.
Yes, I definitely should have used a more visible font, at least for the math box.
If your math skills are bad, (just like mine ^^), you can change the waiting time of each operation and the zombie velocity in the second screen, values used for easy, medium and hard levels are just arbitrary presets.

Really cool concept, pretty efficient way to motivate kids to learn math! I like the overall ambiance, artwork & gameplay, the font used could be a bit more readable. Solid entry overally, very fun & good mood, keep up the good work

That's a great idea for an educational game! Nowadays every game of that kind is really boring and children hate them - however, yours is nice! Just by polishing it a little bit you could made an incredible game!

Cool. Thanks for rating our game too :) I liked yours. Did not realise at first that I needed to click on zombie to get the equation. Overall a cool little entry and I like the fact that it can teach kids something while having fun. Well done.

Really smart. I like those kinds of games where the mechanism keeps you on the edge and every mistake builds up the pressure. The sound fits well this zombie math-o-calypse. I think that you could even expand this idea further with more levels and perhaps with little story, anyway I enjoyed this one a lot and will definitely get back to it again. Good job ;)

Thank you for having played the game @jcwelgemoed !
Glad you enjoyed it :)

I have just updated the page to take in account the feedbacks: I have changed the font for the math box so it is more readable. The original version can still be found for comparison.

I am having fun playing games, I hope you all have fun too!

A rather simple game in concept, but it gets the job done, for sure! My experience was a TAD buggy, though.... Not sure if that's because of my potato laptop, though. At one point, I couldn't type the answer, even after clicking on different targets and on the typing spot with my mouse. On the start of one of the levels, a zombie spawned with 0+0, and the answer was already filled in for me (0), but I couldn't hit enter.

Either way, I wouldn't want to study in that school. I'd rather take my chances with the zombies. Well done~

Thank you for the feedback!

I will try to reproduce this error, understanding why you got a pre-filled answer and lose control over the LineEdit...

And I clearly should remove zeros values from the random lists for any operation, this is not really interesting.

Thank you!

The simplistic graphics really help to see this experience, with mistakes hilariously punished, but never frustratingly so. Really enjoyed this.

Very well done overall. Everything works pretty well and is decently polished. Doing every part of a game is always impressive.

This is a very cool game! Makes math fun as well :-)

I love the comic graphics. Especially the details like the one girl and the teacher being behind barbed wire. Cool zombies and animations as well.

The minus symbol in your font is still a little thin, the rest is good now (I read that you updated it already).

The sound is cool, very arcady and a good fit.

The difficulty might even be higher, on random and hard I managed to win the first time with only two losses :-)

Overall a very cool game, good work, I will be sure to follow you to see what you have to offer in the next LDs :-)

Thanks for your nice comment @gonutz !
If you want more difficulty you can still speed up the zombies and let you less time for each operation, I picked the values for Easy/Medium/Hard based on my family results but this is not an universal reference!

I really hope I will participate to other LDs and that this will be as great as this first one. Will be glad to see you then!

With some refining this could be a great education game for young children. There were a few technical glitches with the numbers, but overall this is a great concept. Everything besides the graphics works really well!

"Thanks to the creators. I recommended the game to my son. Why not make different levels of difficulty? everything is super, except this. Give the child the opportunity to develop, move from level to level, and somehow learn faster and faster!
I can advise everyone to teach children interactively, on games, films, various training services, let them from childhood become accustomed to technology and the Internet, in adult life this will help them out!
For example, when my child encounters a problem, I explain that you need to use en.wikipedia.org, www.mathpapa.com/, or even https://writercheap.com/blog/narrative_essay_topics for certain cases, for example.
Why sit with incomprehensible questions for whole days, if you can get a sample, how to do it correctly, for ... an hour!"
