King of Coins is a fun and satisfying puzzle game made by me (https://twitter.com/SandPile).

TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_yW47APTX4

DESCRIPTION: - In this game, you are going through levels with only a backpack to help you. Although seemingly useless, this backpack will be your key to progressing through the levels. Pick up coins and put them in your backpack. Your backpack will be really heavy, but you can take your coins and throw them to new places! drop your backpack and use it to climb up high ledges, or do whatever else you might need to do, to achieve victory in King of Coins!

DEV NOTES: - This was a fun game to make. I took me two days to complete, and a lot of that time was spent during nights. I almost regret it, because I am really busy with school work. But it was really fun to program a game, as it's been a while since I last did it.

  • I am very happy with how the sound effects turned out. All of them were made by me on a Zoom H1 microphone.

  • I wish that I had more time to create more levels, but I am a one-man team, and i got too tired towards the end.

  • Sorry that i can't build for MAC! I don't have one, and too busy to emulate it. :(

  • If you want more levels, please tell me in the comments, and I might get to it soon! Sorry for the lack of levels :(

KNOWN BUGS: - The display icon that hovers over backpacks will disappear sometimes if you reload the scene. The game will still be beatable, but if it bugs you, reload again, and it might come back. - If you have too many coins on the screen, any text will glitch out.

DEV LOG: - Added splash screen, and .exe icon. - Limited resolution changes to 16:9 aspect ratio only to fix UI bugs (Thanks, @holyblackcat!)

I quite enjoyed this! Great art, decent audio, and a mechanic that feels like a fun interpretation of the theme. Good work!

Throwing the coins around was pretty fun. Using realistic sounds in pixely games sounds kind of weird sometimes but I think you did a really good job of it in here. I also liked how you used the theme.

## Praise

I enjoyed this a lot. The puzzle design is good and the art and sound work together well. The increasing weight is a great way of using the theme.

## Suggestions

I didn't see a way to do this, but some way to reload the level would be nice. Just a quick button press to start over.

There is a way to reload. the 'X' button should do it. Thanks a lot for the feedback, everyone!

Very nice game, with good visuals and audio. I liked the level design.

There is a bug though, the edges of the screen are clipped on low resolutions, making it impossible to see the gui and parts of the level.

Thanks a lot, @holyblackcat! It was an aspect ratio issue. Should be fixed now!
Glad you liked it :)

It's a 64bit ver. only? I would be glad to play it with a 32bit ver. or an HTML5. Because your idea is so similar to ours, I need to try it HAHAHA

@victor-sette Added a x32bit version, working on an HTML version! Sorry, It's my first jam :P
I gotta check your game out!

Thank you! I tried to play but for some reason I can't jump. With or without the backpack. I press space and nothing. But wow, for the bit I got to play, I'd say you have a wonderful entry for your first jam game! If my jump worked, I would say that is one of the best I've played in this jam!

Hey man this is pretty dope! Probably the most interesting implementation of the overburdened mechanic for sure. I was definitely hooked with the puzzle design.

Among the many games featuring heavy coins in this game jam, this one is definitely the most original I have played so far.

Trying to balance the load between several backpacks while your coins keep bouncing back at you isn't the most compelling part of the game, but I guess one gets used to it over time. Maybe using the second mouse button to drop your coins with less power could be a nice option, though.

Great work anyway, I would love to see more levels added.

One fo the best coin based games in LD40! Well done!
- Gameplay is smooth as butter.
- Audio is great! (Did you do it all by yourself?)
- The game is fun to play and the puzzles are good.
- Over all a very well made entry.

Very well made puzzle game. One thing I had an issue with is needing to put exactly the number of coins onto the pad instead of X or more onto the pad. Thought I was doing something wrong or something was broken and had to restart and try again a few times until I figured it out. Overall great job!

Very nice. I had a lot of fun and the graphics and audio were nice too. There was just a little problem with lag. The framerate was pretty high, but then it suddenly dropped, making the game unplayable. But overall this was a really good game!

Nice puzzle design overall, interesting to see more entries taking this level based puzzle design :)

I sympathize with the feeling of neglecting other things in favor of LD for a while.. :D

If theres any one thing which had me confuse for a bit was how to drop down from platforms, which I would assume was going to be the arrow down key, but it was actually space + arrow down key, but really thats just a small detail, overall I thought it was a great entry.

Nice work!

I have spammed every key on my keyboard and am unable to find the jump button shown in the trailer. =( Judging on the things I did see though, the coin noises are a little to be loud and obnoxious and while the graphics are well made enough, they were clearly not made with readability in mind, with things blending into the background a little bit and the font being a little hard to read.

@Gomango999 Sorry about that. That jump error is a problem with the x32 version of the game. I've removed that version from the page, as I have no idea how to fix it.
