Big Pockets by Jeremy Ryan

[raw]
made by Jeremy Ryan for LD 40 (JAM)

CoverImage.png

How many things can you fit in your pockets? It's probably a rather large number. But not as large as Wallace, the super-secret super spy.

Unfortunately, Wallace has gotten himself in a bit of a bind. Help him break out of the enemy base by placing items in his big pockets and utilizing them later to aid his infiltration exploits.

Watch out, though --- the more items you have, the worse it is --- as you have to cycle through one item at a time to find the one you need.

Disclaimer

We were a bit rushed in making this game, so we didn't quite reach the scope we originally envisioned. The fundamental mechanics are there, but it's a bit glitchy and incomplete. We hope to fix some of these issues in a post-jam version!

* All assets, including animation, music, and SFX, were made during the 72-hour Jam! *

That's because I forgot to make the Itch.io public. Sorry, should be good now!

Love the theme. I really wanted to read the note in the beginning, is there a way to do that? If not, that would be a terrific way of sliding in some film noir type backstory, which would bump this to a new level.
Love then animation! The bouncing hat walkcycle and jumpboots animations were my favorites
Nice!

The gameplay is fun, graphics and music are good, a few times in the beginning I was tempted into picking up some useless items but it really hurt me later.

a big pocket is really hard to action , genius idea!
pixel animation really wonderful, enemies cute enough and a little bit friendly(but that added the humourous of this game,haha)
death-effect is shock and still have some little problem when the camera fade.
currently the switch of itmes is a little bit hard and let me get some anxious, hope to see you more polish and new explore in this theme,that really interesting.

Nice game! Animations are very well made. Jumping boots had em confused for a while (I wanted to jump with space). Anyway, great job!

Looks very polished, but is this intended?

Wacky mr badspy and the music struck the tone right immediately, good mood.

The item switching was indeed a bit cumbersome, but we have been trained by even worse inventory systems in major games, so we have some inbuilt patience :D

Using items in different ways (jump up, then switch to club to hit, rince repeat) was a good 'aha' moment.

The enemies dont seem that hostile, rarely even trying to hit me. Perhaps the bananas were for healthups? Fun nonetheless. :)

**Overall, I thought that it was a good game!**

Some notes I had:
* Mood is well set
* Enemies aren't that intimidating/hard
* Minor graphical glitches when respawning after dying (doors in particular)

Overall though, a very nice game! Thanks for participating!

Couldn't get past the room with the spikes but until there it was great fun. Is it intended to be impossible to get the slingshot? The dude in front of it just steps to the front of the ledge when he sees me and then there is no way to jump over there. But I guess it would be too powerful.

I liked the graphics and animations, they felt really "blooby" (i really don't know how to express it in other words :D ) yeah, the enemies aren't that much of a threat, it makes the game a bit easy, but the overall feeling is good :) Thank you for making a good game and i hope you have had a good time making it :)

Wow, I am such a noob. Once I opened the first door, I could not figure out what to do. No matter how hard I tried jumping to get higher, it did not work, and the lock pick would not open any additional doors (that I tried). Sad because the music/graphics/sound/mood is good and I wanted to see if I could be clever enough to only collect what I needed. Still, I liked what I saw. Nice work

I love the mechanic of how it gets harder and harder to switch to the right item you need fits with the theme. Sometimes the enemy would stand at the edge of a platform so I couldn't get onto it because I couldn't jump and attack fast enough. The animations were good but the game could use some polishing. Great job!

@ProdicalSon Sorry to hear that! You should be able to lockpick any red doors, which should let you into the lower room from that first open area.

It sometimes takes a couple tries, as we didn't get the chance to iron out all of the bugs, but I definitely haven't encountered the case where the door just won't open at all.

Wished this game be more humorous. Sometimes it's really worse having those items. The picture is engaging, making an expectation for some real spy act.
