Dancing Bandit by Tay

[raw]
made by Tay for LD 41 (JAM)

Dancing Bandit is a western roguelike stealth dancing inspired game. Shoot cowboys, dance with the pretty ladies, don't get spotted, but don't forget. NEVER.STOP.DANCING.

Goal : - Always look up, when an arrow enter the white box, move in that direction. - Stay close to the ladies to dance with them to get points. - Shoot the cowboys to get even more points. - Don't get caught spotlights. - There's no winning, just try to get the highest score.

Controls: - Wasd or zqsd to move. - Arrow keys to shoot in directions. - Space to start/restart the game.

Other Info/Making of: The game is really prototype-ish. I was working on the 3 day of the jam so I really didn't put as much time as I would of wish on it, I even decided to change my idea half-way trough, but I think it's an interesting idea and I might continue improving it.

Things I would have liked to add: - Cowboys attacking the player. - Character animations. - More sound effects and better soundtrack. - Add more stealth elements like hiding. - Characters vanishing after a while. - Adding other actions in the dance(shooting,etc...) - Ammo.

It's a bit bare bones but the concept is certainly interesting. Hope you develop it further! Following thread

This is a really clever idea, but I think it would have been a bit more fun if the dancing part of the game had a quicker tempo. Impressive that you managed to get something like this finished within that short of a timespan!

There is not a lot to do in the game yet, but i teally liked the idea of instead of having to push the key on a specific moment, how you have some margin to perform the action, gives a little strategy to the rhythm game. I guess when you walk in the direction of the arrow some points could be given. You also need to check the random generator, as I have started a game in a small empty room.

Good work!

I agree with most sentiments here, the tempo is just a little slow and a bit monotonous. But i also found the difficulty ramps up alot quickly with the spot lights and such. I think the foundation of the game is solid and with a few tweaks and a few more interesting choices it could be really fun! Good work!

I like that the goal of the game is just dancing with ladies for as long as possible, lol!

This is a great idea. I like how it played and trying to keep track of the arrows at the top of the screen and shooting badguys and dancing with the ladies was a fun dynamic to balance. Nice work!

It took me a bit to figure it all out, but it was really fun once I did. There is a lot to balance at the same time, so the game has difficulty. Overall I have to say the theme was really fun, good stuff!

This was fun. I am really horrible at multitasking games but this has a lot of potential. I think that you could have made the player speed a little faster and given the player the ability to shoot during movement without taking away from the game at all.

The art and the mood was good, although I would have liked to see something neat when you hit a note successfully.

Do the spotlights follow you when they hear you? Because I swear in all my games they would home in on me and not stop following me until they hit me.

Fun stuff, and pixelated cowboys are always cool, my only grievance is the cowboy is not really dancing. The idea is good but prototype is missing a lot of details, perhaps do postjam version.

Good concept, you have a good base for a bigger game. Also, I love the pallete you choose for your game. Good job!

Definitely working on a post-jam version. Didn't get much time during the jam so I really want to explore this idea further. Thanks for your precious feedback :)

Definitely a good prototype. I found it to be very hard and slow, but the graphics were good and the concept was solid. Good job!
