My first ludum dare compo! I was surprised at how much I was able to get done, I didn't expect it to go this smoothly. Everything is written 100% from scratch, no libraries. (Except require.js, but that's just so that I can use Typescript modules easily)

Evil Wizard stars you, a wizard that wants power. Magical power comes from nature, therefore, to collect power, you must steal it from nature. The higher amounts of magic power you've reached, the more abilities you have, but the worse nature thinks of you.

The more magical power you have, the worse it gets.

As a side-note, this is very hard. If you're not worried about spoilers, this is the best strategy to use:

  1. Avoid mushrooms and frogs entirely until you have your first ability, Fireball. They deal the most damage. If you have to take them out (such as from being in a room with just them) make sure you're only taking on one at a time.
  2. Only take out frogs and mushrooms from a distance with the Fireball. They deal too much damage to physically attack them.
  3. Don't let your health drop too low, as there are critical hits.
  4. Use Dark Hand strategically to block the paths of creatures.

Pretty cool game. The concept is a bit simple but I played it for a while.

i really liked the "step by step" music stuff.
i like the retro gaming style too !
but i didn't feel the theme so much, i understand it by reading the description but it's not obvious.
the game is not so hard and pretty well balanced.
Nice job !

Cool game! You're right that it's very hard. I followed your advice and got the flowers first, which helped, but some way to heal seems ideal. Also, there is a bug where the step after an enemy dies they can still hit you. Would also be nice to turn around without moving.
