I liked the concept, memory game + killing zombies is a nice fantasy work.
Also the piano background was nice.
Thanks for your work!
EDIT: Never mind it loaded ;p
I would consider making the zombies stand out from the rest of the scene more. Since they don't move very fast, it is hard to tell when they move, because they are green like the trees and blend in a bit out of my peripheral vision.
The jump is not very forgiving, but that just adds to the difficulty :)
At some point in wave 2, the zombies stopped spawning, so I was uncontested while flipping cards. This might be a bug you should look into.
If you develop this further, I think it would be rad to have super detailed and stylized concept art of gross zombies on all the cards :)
Well done!
I'll be honest my first play through I didn't move at all and i only shot one bullet xd The next time I was more prudent, and lasted almost enough to clear the board. However, Upon turning over one of the lose all credit zombie cards, the game froze and didn't resume again, which might be my computer again xd
All in all fun little game.
I think I hit a bug though. I beat wave one then half way thorough wave two the zombies stopped spawning. I was relieved because it was getting pretty close.
I like the split thinking you have to do, keeping an eye on your position while still calmly solving puzzles. Nice work on the sound effects/music. Also the UI felt very slick and responsive to use.
Honestly I can't think of what more this game needs, seemed pretty complete. Good work!
Struggled to work with the resolution I have but good non the less :)
Thanks for the game ;)
Good job, and good luck!
@notpresident35 I went with 3D because I find it easier to work worth (I'm terrible at drawing) and I was planning to make the models more polished with animation but I ran out of time. Ammo is purchased using credits you earn from matching cards. I should have included instructions/controls in game but I was so rushed I thought about it after the fact. Definitely noted for next time!
I somehow felt some of the nasty cards were too nasty. It was difficult enough to get ammo. Would be nice maybe instead of buying, you could see icons of "ammo" or "health". And you'd need to combine those together. "Find 2 ammo cards". Or maybe there could be so that if you pick wrong card, one of the card vanishes (just an idea).
I think stealing my credits was something I have no control over, making this just chaotic - I lose all my progress, and all my strategy (memorized position of cards). Of course zombies could have more hitpoints, there could be different ammo types, different weapons, and boosts...
I would not allow infinite jumping,. or maybe so that "jumping" would require finding "jumping cards" and thus you would have "1 jump" that you can take. And in that case jumping should be "easy" and it should jump so high that you can easily go there.
I feel this might be great in "ipad" where you can tap on screen. Now I had to try memorize arrow keys and use mouse to flip cards.
Oh and one more thing: Instead of stealing credit/randomizing cards, I would maybe add cards like "zombie recovers" or "more zombies appear" when drawing certain card.
Overall: The concept is very clever. I think the design is solid. Very good entry. From gameplay perspective this is so far maybe the tighest/most tactical I've seen in ldjam41 (that boxing game where you glue dude's eyes is really solid entry as well :D)
Thanks for checking my game.
One thing though, i couldn't figure out how to shoot, i know it sais left shift but it didn't work for me for some reason. I tried different keyboard layouts as well, both Qwerty and Azerty, left shift doesn't seem to do anything for me i'm afraid.
Cool effort none the less though! I feel like it fits the theme nicely and it's a difficult multy-tasker as well.
I played it again and it works, really hard game but super neat.
I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.
I hope you continue with the project.
