Umm the ai is kinda all over the place however the principles of how the ai works can be found here.

Interesting fact: This type of movement was used in heard scenes in the lion king!
Also, the soundtrack was decent and the atmosphere was good.
Right now, shooting feels a little slow and weak, a punchier sound effect and some particles would go a super long way (I know it's not easy to do in a jam, I'm talking for future work since it looks like you plan on expanding based on your other comments).
Taking over dead cells and making an army is super satisfying, nice idea and good execution!
Overall, it gave me a nice experience and it was pretty fun.
Anyway, thats a nice game, cool entry , good job !!
With a little bit of polish you can have a good game, maybe allow different types of attacks, strategizing where to attack, or even multiplayer so you can infect with a friend. I feel that you have lots of possibilities, and the game already is entertaining, will only benefit from the additions. Congratulations :)
I made it to around 3,000 points and 110+ Hit Points before I kind of figured the game wasn't going to end. Slight suggestion, as the player gains more and more hit points the enemies should become more aggressive. I could easily dodge a group of enemies by using them to block and push each other, then quickly shoot and kill them all before they could change directions.
This is great work, I hope to see you all in future Ludum Dares.
My main critique goes to the shooting controls: I think you can aim better with the mouse, for example, as right now you're limited to shooting in 4 directions only. If you plan to make this a mobile game, dual sticks would be perfect.
Congrats!
One complaint I have is that it really doesn't scale down all that well: menus get cut off at lower screen resolutions. I know this is pretty common for 2D Unity projects and (not having used Unity that often) I don't understand why. Just something to consider for the next jam :)
Come check out my game if you like! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/snake-1
The background looks nice, but I'm not that keen on the rest of the visuals. The UI with generic text looks a bit unfinished - it would nice if the health display fit more with the game's theme.
The music and shooting sound effects are good. However, it feels like sounds are missing (recruiting an enemy, collecting health, getting hit, etc.).
You guys can also do a lot more with the AI. GOOD lUCK !
To improve you could add more variety to the enemies, in that they do different things other than having more health and shape.
