In Hitch Bird, you play as bee-eater bird, hitching a ride on an elephant. The elephant flushes out your prey, but you're not the only hungry bee-eater around. 🐘🐦🐝

Gameplay

Fly into other birds to scare them away.

Fly into insects to eat them.

Make sure you don't run out of stamina in midair! (tip: elephant backs are great for replenishing rests)

Activate DEMON mode by pressing Y once you've eaten 10 Bees, you can now EAT the other birds!

alright i played it without reading the gameplay and i got it after 1 minute of playing it, maybe add some Fx Feedback to the ennemies so that we know we can interact with them. the concept is more interesting than the realisation of it.

The concept is interesting and very beautiful graphics, but lacks tutorial

I thought the atmosphere and graphics of you hitching a ride on a striding elephant was really good. However, the gameplay got too repetitive after a few minutes (unless I've missed some developments that happen later in the game).

@matank You can activate the demon bird ability after you eat 10 bees, make sure to "tweet" with right click/B
But that's pretty much it.

@gautstafr
Yeah, I did activate the demo ability, that was awesome :)

I like how you can bounce other birds away :D Still, it would be nice if the elephant at least made an illusion his legs were moving. Also had an issue where a lot of birds clustered against each other and weren't able to move.

@shozou I really wanted to animate the elephant, but I didn't really know how to, tried following a tutorial, but it didn't work out well, oh well. Maybe next time there will be all kinds of animated animals, and they'll all be dancing!

Nice graphics, actually felt a bit relaxing taking a ride on the back of the elephant. With some nicer flying animations it could be really nice. Pretty funny becoming the demon bird, but i think it was a little bit too easy to use that each time.
Great entry :)

Nice idea! As others said, it does get repetitive though. Being a demon bird is a nice touch, but you can easily just use that tactic over and over again ^^

That being said, the idea is great and I like the simple graphics. Congrats on making the deadline! :)

Not gonna lie - I didn't get the gameplay but art direction is great. I mean I undertsand that I should eat bees, but I can't eat them somehow.

Neat little game. seems like an experience though but it does have a score counter so nice. also relaxing type feeling with the audio and game mechanics and giant elephant passively walking through the endless field.

@el-metallico really? that's strange, you should be able to just fly right into them and they automatically get eaten. But thanks for your feedback!

What a chill game! I can see myself playing this after a long day, just enjoying the scenery, eating some bees and becoming a demon and eviscerating other birds wait what? ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-osF36Qsiuo
