The ultimate Battle Royale Cooking game!

Story

You are a strong, beautiful Tofu, so fierce you could probably withstand a few drops of water, or even a sudden puff of air, yet, you find yourself in an island filled with the proudest and most ferocious warlords of your kin – the great tofu warriors of yore – all partaking in the most ancient of all tofu traditions, a massive survival of the fittest battleground where only the last one standing can reclaim the greatest of all titles, “the one true Tofu King”.

So get ready and try to not bump into other tofu, touch any objects, or enter any danger zones, really literally anything could be the end of you!

Don’t try to be a hero, and you might just survive long enough to be crowned king and own the island!

Great effort! Shame that there's no audio.

Those cute tofu blocks have won my heart!

What a funny little game. Good twist on the battle royale madness. Would have been nice for cooking to be a bit more present, but that aside it was quite good. Good work :)

I'm always going to enjoy a game with a dedicated 'Dance' button. I love the map design and the graphics are cute. I initially assumed other tofus were other players, which speaks wonders to your AI design. (I mean, I assume it just picks a random direction to walk in, but still.) There are a few issues with the game though, most notably that it seems to be impossible to win.

I spawned a few times directly on an obstacle, or in the water, and died immediately. Then I found a good strategy, ran from danger zones, and managed to reach the end of the game, where the last zone was deleted. And then I lost the game, because I was in a forbidden zone. There were literally no non-forbidden zones on the map.
I understand the game checks for surviving_enemies==0, but I have no ability to interact with my enemies, so if another tofu just happens to survive to the end there is nothing I can do. I just lose.

Some more minor gripes:
- the controls feel floaty; I can't ever stop moving and my acceleration is pretty fast. I'm not sure if this is supposed to make me feel more like tofu, but sliding around is always going to be an annoying movement system.
- enemies eat you but you can't eat enemies. What's up with that? No justice in this world.
- rivers speed you up. I don't really understand why.

To be clear, I did enjoy the game. I liked dancing around and because death was so easy and I could do nothing but wait the whole experience was tense. I definitely felt like I was in a battle royale situation, where everyone was out to get me, and each other; though one in which all I could do was hide. Bit of a pity about the lack of sound but it's LD; what can you do. I'm just a bit bitter because the game arbitrarily told me I lost despite getting to the end.

Liked the art style but as @amras0000 mentiond already spawning directly in an enemy or tree was not soo fun

I have to agree, that the audio is just missing in this nice game. But for the rest: well done, guys!

I expected a Battle Royale game to show up, glad it's covered in silky smooth goodness! It's a funny take on the theme, shame that the "_cooking_" aspect doesn't really show though.

The game could use some way of interacting with other tofus, as @amras0000 pointed out, you can only win the game by hiding and hoping no one else ends up in the same spot, which is especially weird considering that they can interact with you. It makes for a somewhat annoying gameplay coupled with a very floaty control scheme, although it served as the challenging factor for the game so there's that.

In any case, it's a nice entry. Well done!

Oh my, I also made a Battle Royale game with a Tofu character(soyfriend) in it! Thanks for sharing this fun game. I made it all the way to the end! Great job with the controls- having that wobbly feeling definitely added to the tension.

Not sure if "tofu" counts as topic, but you still got 5 Theme Stars from me ;)

Pretty cool. A bit annoying that I sometimes die instantly because I spawn right next to an enemy. I think you should pause the game for a second or until a keyboard input, and let the player decide where to move first. Also do a check when you generate AI spawns and check if anyone is within a certain distance from the player.

Considering it was made by 8 people I expected some sound though! :p Either way, good job, and good luck next game jam :)

Thanks everyone for your comments!

@LuckyFeathers Thank you, too. Unfortunately the only people who signed up for our company internal game jam were programmers and designers. So in the end I had to chose if I should try making graphics or sound and I chose graphics. Maybe we get some sound people to sign up next time (-:

That's a good idea about the waiting for input. A countdown would work, too, I think. The spawn logic at least checks for collisions and doesn't spawn you into something. Would have been great if that check checked for a wider area.

This was a cute, funny little game! Took me a while to figure out how to play properly exactly and I'm unsure what made me faster or slower, and I'm unsure what dancing did, but I had fun! haha. Nice submission!!
