Life-Points, A Ludum Dare Game. by AcidViper

[raw]
made by AcidViper for LD 44 (COMPO)

Hey! I'm a thirteen year old programmer and this is my first ever LD jam that I've finished a game for, thanks for taking a look at it. I know the programmer art isn't the most appealing! All assets were made within the 48 hours and this was made for the compo.

Controls:

WASD For moving

ARROW KEYS For shooting

X for Speed Ability N For Nuke Ability The theme of this game jam was : "Your life is currency" My attempt at using this theme was making your life directly linked to your ammo, and your abilities (Abilities are unlocked at 50 kills and 100 kills). Therefore you die if you don't balance your shots. There are three different types of enemies, and due to my lack of artistic skill, they're defined by the colors of their pants.

(There is a bug where the enemy can spawn inside the player, in this situation you have to either nuke or restart the game! I'm working on fixing this!)

Green Pants - 1 Heart Increased Speed

Red Pants - 1 Heart, standard enemy

Pink Pants- 2 Hearts, Normal Speed

Your abilities are unlocked at 50 enemy kills and 100. 50 kills gives you access to increase your speed temporarily, and cost 3 life points, no cool down. 100 kills gives you access to kill all enemies at once (Nuke), the cool down is 30 seconds.

There is a hidden Dev key, feel free to post if you found it but please don't say what it is!

Cool! I think it would be nice if you made the map a bit bigger and added in some different kind of attacks, to add some more variety to the game

I liked the progression. Only wish I could shoot diagonally by pressing two directions together. Really great for a first jam.

I cheated with the dev key (mainly because you told me what it was), but it was still pretty enjoyable to run around and just kill everyone. Music could get repetitive, and graphics weren't the greatest, but it was definitely a fun experience that I could see myself playing with more enemy types and new attacks/specials. Good job on your first finished jam!

While this game is quite rudamentary and not very polished, it is a positive result and a success given the context of its creation. Yes, the music is really obnoxious, the movement and shooting are simplistic, and it's all quite rough, but it shows potential, ambition, and drive. Since I know you personally, I know your history with game dev so far, and it looks good. In fact, I couldn't have created something like this when I was your age. If you keep working, keep improving, and keep trying, all with a critical eye and with accepting that while it's okay that you are where you are now, it's crucial for you to keep improving, you will develop plenty and become a great programmer. You just have to have patience, self-discipline, and truly try your best * 1.1f;
