Dancing Club Bloodlust by SpaceMonkey

A subtle mix of cute and gore!
If you try to beat the game, you're probably off for a ragequit. Fortunately the game saves your progress so you can always go back to it after a hot shower.
The WebGL version is a post jam version. I actually prefer if you play it but only leave a comment then, no ratings.

I'm glad you enjoyed the challenge ! I did my best to design cool tracks, and also tested the levels A LOT until I was happy with the difficulty curve. Thank you so much for playing !!
The monster could be a little quicker on his feet, but beyond that, magic!
By the way I totally remember your game from LD40, and I loved it.
Let me check that entry of yours ...
This is definitely the game I played for the longest time for a LD game.
My only issue is with the actual rhythm. It might just be me, but I feel like the notes are not exactly aligned with the arrows (When you press arrow key exactly when note plays, you fail). I actually did better when turning down the volume. Which is a bummer :-/
But I still think the game is great! Overall 5/5 :)!
Some music were hard to beat but are satisfying to play :D

I will check everybody's game, giving priority to those who have less than 20 reviews.
The feedback is too good, I already planned to spend at least one more day to polish the game and make a post-jam version, maybe two.
My plan is to :
1) Fix the sound issues on the WebGL version and try to make it more enjoyable overall.
2) Add a little bit more spice to the ending, and MAYBE lower the difficulty for the last rabbit. At least make it a little bit more fair so you don't have to grind for 20 minutes to beat it.
3) Change a few dialogs. Beleive it or not, but some of those bad jokes make me cringe more than the others !
4) Save the position of skeletons, so you can see the mess you made when you move around.
5) Find a way to kill the non-dancing bunnies. I had that request a few too many times to ignore it.
I'll post a devlog on itch.io, follow me if you're interested.
Admittedly, my rhythm is bad, but it still felt like some of the beats were off for bunny 3?
I noticed during the tests that 100% on bunny04 (actually guard01) it still very doable for most people if they spend 5 minutes on it. And this is were hardcore gamers would actually start enjoying the game and get really hooked.
The problem is, everybody has a different feel for rhythm in general, so it's really hard to have a game that is fit for everyone. I have a decent sense of rhythm and I still need 2-4 tries to beat guard01 (and I played that level >20 times). During the tests, after the jam, I saw a friend beat him on second try. It was almost too easy for him.
At first I designed guard01 thinking I would stop the game there. That's why I made a bump in the difficulty curve, thinking more than 50% of players would quit there but that was ok because there was nothing behind anyway and I had my 5 minutes of gameplay. In the end I added 3 more levels, but didn't have time to adjust the difficulty of guard01, and I knew it wasn't anything critical since most LD testers would stop playing after 5 minutes.
Anyway you have a very good point there, it's something I'll have to fix one way or another if I want to make it into a cool mini-game. It has been on my mind since day 2.
Bunny3 was so rushed, I'm sorry for the sound sync problem, I already had guard01 in mind lol
It will be very easy to fix though.
Sorry for the long post and thank you for your feedback !
I was still somehow a bit too ambitious with this game. I would have loved to polish it more. Well that's why I'm still working on it when I have time :)
As for my nitpicks, the tolerance area should probably be centered _around_ the matching keys, and not below. Or even perhaps 33% early tolerance 67% late tolerance, or some other ratio.
Thank you for your honest relaxed gameplay. I had fun watching you !
Dude, you are a hero. Producing your keynote, participating in the jam, and then producing videos of gameplay. I hope you plan to rest for a week after that ;-) You deserve it.
"This is on the brink of frustrating me" haha I'm SO sorry. I tested the game a lot and was frustrated too. I knew the notes were slightly out of sync but I couldn't fix it fast enough and the project was too big (which is my #1 mistake) so I did what every dev is tempted to do at some point : turn a bug into a feature. I made the game more and more difficult, and the whole point was to make the player quit at some point, with frustration. I thought "Getting Over It is doing it, so I can do it too!". But honestly I felt so bad watching you suffer during the last 10 minutes. This was evil. At the same time it really shows how kind and patient you are ! The least I can do now is honor my promise, and I hope you can forgive me. The package will be on its way either tomorrow or on Monday.
Your feedback was super useful to me, and I agree with all the negative points. The first point is to fix the rhythm game and add a difficulty option. I plan to fix all the other problems you and others mentioned and make it into my first very humble mini-game.
We small indies are so lucky to have you ! Much love <3

I think that the % is not counting presses that are additive to the pattern example if the pattern is right right right and I spam right right right right right with two in between I felt like those were not counted against me. I could be wrong though :)
I reuploaded the Jam version by the way, sorry for not spotting this earlier. I'm glad I at least had that watermark there.
Thank you for your time. You got a new subscriber on Youtube btw.
One thing I would change is a simple increase in walking speed instead of a dedicated run button. When the player constantly holds down the running button with no drawback, there basically is no need for it. But maybe it's just personal.
Anyway, nice game! The bunnies and their sweet tunes will stay on my mind for a while. Have a fish <3 🐟
Still lacks a bit of polishing on rythm part (no mistakes punishment, and a bit bad tracking of input).
Also would add at least some meat at the end, king was a lie :(
In general - really funny game!)
