@GamesOfSummer - Art, Script, & Some Code

Hope you enjoy, critique welcome!

NOTE: After a nap, I un-commented some experimental code and swapped out a font. It didn't crash so I uploaded it. You can find the original submission via the link too.

NOTE 2: Got a comment about the Mac build not Rendering. Uploaded a Universal Mac build, which might help those on older Mac systems. If you're still having problems it's likely because you're on an older system that is either not 64-bit or has really old OpenGL versions.

CAUTION SPOILERS:

This was a very sweet and dark story. The dad locking me out crushed my heart and the bad dreams stopping was really eerie. The skinny malnourished moth and the dad's cruelty was sad, yet when it showed how sweet and kind his moth dad was it cheered me back up, just to be bummed again. This game made me feel. Why can't he tell his mom though?

Scope. But we also use phrases like "everyone is gone." We had planned to write the mother and father to have similar outcomes.

I'm really glad people are enjoying it, I've never done a story focused game and it's heart-warming that it's even slightly effective! ^_^

I really wanted to play this, but couldn't get it to work on my mac. Both versions did the same thing: Displayed a credits page, then played music over a mauve checked background.

The music was good, and I appreciate having the opportunity to use the word mauve, so thank you for that, but I'll have to check back later to see if there's a fix so I can score it.

5/5 game. Great moving story, it made me feel sad (and sort of relieved when I saw Moth Dad...)

Gorgeous! What a great example of a small number of simple but well-executed pieces coming together to form an even greater whole. The game, art, and audio all came together to support the story - I loved how you can feel the difference between the bouncy, carefree caterpillar and the hesitant moth. I definitely see it as an intriguing, bittersweet coming-of-age story.

This is one of the most adorable games I've ever seen! Even just moving around was fun, and the contrast made the narrative even better.

Loved every aspect of it!

Beautiful colors & a very interesting concept! Cool way to interpret the theme, it felt like I was shifting my shape as well as shifting my perspective of the two dads.

This was a fantastic entry! I really enjoyed the art style and music which I felt set a mood that was similar to a fairy tale. I also really enjoyed the story of it which was a great take on the theme. It was happy and touching at the same time. I also adored the little touches you had, such as how frantic the movement was when you were a baby lol. My only gripes are very minor ones such as the fact that the checkerdboard pattern wasn't amazing background filler, in my opinion. The game did also get a bit repetative in the middle. Other than those very small things you did a superb job!

i really enjoyed this! the graphics and audio were really stylish and atmospheric, and i felt pretty invested in the story. the mood that you set was intriguing, i went from being relaxed to more and more on-edge as the game went on, eager to see how the story panned out...

Nice story! Art and music are great! Though the checker board background almost gave me a headache...
Also I felt the movement too slow after you hatch... I mean, I understand that you don't just run around like when young, but still, just to walk to talk to Dad seemed to take some time...

Anyway great entry!

Wow this was intense. "Bravo" for this game and the story even if I missed something at the end.
The art syle is uncommon and I love it.

This was really wonderful. It was interesting to think through both scenarios of what was happening. Also, in many ways, it was a good portrayal of being a kid. Great work.
