Refuse to Lose by ttftcuts

made by ttftcuts for LD 40 (JAM)

Enter the arena in Refuse to Lose, a deadly game show where points mean prizes, but smashing prizes means points! Take responsibility for your prizes.

Once all enemies on a screen are defeated, the barrier on the top wall will be removed and you can advance. A special secret awaits in room 5!

Make sure to play through to the end and listen to the announcer when time is up, it might not be over when you think it's over. It's only a few minutes long and it's worth it, honest.

Sound is important for this game, particularly the show host. There are subtitles when the audio files are able to load, but it's best played with sound proper. Make sure you can hear what's going on!

Controls

WASD/arrow keys - move character

Made by a team of four, everything is our own except the shotgun sound, that one was sourced online.

Written in dart with three.js by TTFTCUTS, spriting by Goulasche, title background and name by Ozbrikk, music and sound by Arheo.

Post-submission updates: - Fixed critical bug relating to capitalisation which prevented the second half of the game being accessible when uploaded. - Added alternate .ogg versions of all sounds for browsers which don't play mp3 web audio.

Crazy and humorous. The shoot sceen is very impressive and smooth. I love it when I was told to clean the scene... Music fits it very well and implies its humor.

Reminds me of good ol Smash TV, nice job! I wish there was an indicator to tell when you were under the effects of oil, I was slipping around on an early level and thought I was totally glitched out for a while there.

This is hilarious. I love it! Runs a little slow on my laptop though, and the play window is too big for my screen (1366 x 768). My desktop is 1080p and most people are on 1080p, but don't forget the people who are still on 720p!

A fun little game. The gameplay is solid and straightforward, and the game plays pretty well.

One thing that might be fun is the ability to choose what kind of gun to use, although that's not particularly necessary.

We planned and to a degree, implemented that, but we ran out of time to do the switching/character select :(

Your game was AWESOME!

# I loved
- The Dart engine
- The gunplay
- The destroyable items
- The voicing
- The gameplay overall

# What could've been improved
- I've only been able to clean 82% of the blood/oil, I didn't find what was remaining

The way your game respects the theme is just LOVELY
Good work :)

Possibly a wrecked car or boat. They can be shined back to pristine condition with enough scrubbing (initially I had prevented this but it looked too funny so I put it back in)

The shooting/killing phase was fun, but the gameplay felt a bit slow since the enemies barely moved. I think the timer was a nice jam solution to this, but I think moving enemies could add a lot to the game! Cleaning up afterwards felt a bit basic gameplay-wise, but it was exciting to see if I could get it all cleaned up in the time limit, so it worked well too!

The graphics are good but could use with some more animation and effects. The music felt a bit out of place, but I guess you were trying to give it a more playful twist, which worked pretty well together with the announcer.

Really well done!

Game is pretty fun! I actually felt significant slowdowns for some reason, which meant the game skipping a few frames sometimes and allowing me to suddenly teleport on top of oil barrels. That kept me from playing through the end, sadly, because it was really hard not to get stuck into things or dying without being able to react.

I enjoyed the experience, but the best part was probably the audio. Good job with the narration and the music, they were both quite memorable!

Fun game, shooting feels powerful, nice voice.
Doesn't seem to work in Firefox, says please wait and just sits there, works in chrome, although framerate drops sometimes.
