Formation Charge! by theholychicken

[raw]
made by theholychicken for LD35 (COMPO)
Controls:
W & S Keys to change formations
D once to walk, twice to run

There are 4 formation: Wedge beats Wall, Wall beats Wing, Wing Beats Wedge, Testudo defends against arrows.
Right now you can easily take down enemy groups when you use the right formation, but the game isn't finished. Stay tuned for the Post-Compo version!

Solid idea and really good graphics/animation. But I guess you can't lose/die right now? Needs more stuff and perhaps some historical battle progress, with upgrades and extra powerups.

I like the idea, but it's a shame there's no win or lose condition. That'd really help this game shine. The graphics are really cool though, as are the animations and the movements of both armies as they clash. A post-jam version would be great, if you have any plans for one!

Great interpretation of the theme, and really clever idea. I couldn't help but hear Leonidas tell me "Then we will fight in the shade" when getting attacked by the volley of arrows. The graphics were great and I was really impressed how you were able to get all the soldiers to shuffle around and fit into the different formations. I'm sure that took some clever coding. Great job!

Adding some sort of challenge to this game would definitely make it a hit, solid mechanic concept.

Graphics are really cool! But I cannot understand whole point of the game. But it is really fun to smash all that knights anyway! :D

Good start. I wonder what else you could do with the idea.

Nice take on the theme, and good visuals. As others have said, without a win or lose condition it's not quite a game, but what's here is really solid.

Really nice graphics! The game presents no challenge in its current state. I'm not sure where you're going with the concept and how are you going to introduce some challenge, but I'm curious. Thanks for the game!

My main strategy is "the meat grinder". Changing formations make enemy soldiers fly everywhere >:D

Adding to what others said (losing conditions) I miss direct shortcuts to formations instead of cycling. After some time I was kind of getting the idea of which formation was the best for each encounter based on the dispersion fo my batallion.
