altar of a dark god by otresnjak
A simple strategy game, featuring a lot of programmer art, excessively dramatic music, and so, so many bugs.
Made with Unity 2019, Photoshop, Maya, and Hookpad.
You are a dark god, trying to gain a community of followers so you can gain enough power to emerge into the world.
You can sacrifice your followers to gain power (their lives are your currency), then use your power to build new buildings for your community. Pick off only as many as you can afford, since you also need them to create more followers for you!
Your followers will fall in love, grow old, and die. If you arm them, they'll even fight for you (but they're bad at it).
The basics (most of this is explained in-game too): - Followers will only fall in love (and thus make new followers) if there's available housing. So start by making some houses. - Use towers and smithies for defense. - Use temples to gain followers faster. - Use graveyards and statues to gain power faster. - The bonuses granted by temples, graveyards, and statues each stack up to 10 times. - If you have a lot of power but not enough followers, choose a follower and press [E] to make them spontaneously have a baby. An EVIL baby. (Okay, it's just a regular baby.) - Once you have a lot of followers, you can use Mass Sacrifice [M] to sacrifice a lot of them at once and gain lots of power!

Knights killed my entire village... How do I even defend against them?
I found out that I spend a significant portion of the game hunting for elderly people and sacrificing them before they die.
FWIW, it's best to build smithies to arm your villagers against early knight attacks. Build them near where you see villagers congregating because they have a limited range. If you have to you can herd villagers in a direction you want by sacrificing some of them to scare the others.
Very compelling. I had stuff to do, but I could not stop playing
Great job!
The gameplay was fun, apart from selecting your followers which was a bit unresponsive, the music was excellent.
@skalex haha yeah, it was weirdly difficult to prevent inbreeding without affecting population growth in unintended ways, but I think I've figured out a way to deal with it...
