The Cell Stage by Andre Odendaal

[raw]
made by Andre Odendaal for LD35 (COMPO)
Trying to duplicate the Cell Stage from Spore by Maxis but in 2D.

Swaying background could make you squeezy if you're the sensitive type?

Unfortunately I didn't finish in time so while you can eat the green food pellets it doesn't do anything.

There isn't any game play to speak of :(

Instructions:
=============
Click anywhere to move there.
Press 'M' to see the whole map.
Click Evolve to shape shift your character.
Click Play to return to swimming around.
Press Escape to pause and quit the game.

I quite like the graphics ;)
There's no point in the game yet, I suppose it's not finished.
You should really add a 'Close game' button since it starts in fullscreen.

I loved the Spore cell stage too!
The shifting of the different body parts feels like a good simple alternative to the original drag and drop system and is actually pretty fun!
The cell's movement has way too much inertia imo.
It's a shame you couldn't finish. :(

thats fun! good base for a fun game...
to have more orientation it would be good to zoom out a little and have a minimap - is there a limit to the map aquarium walls and the outer world?
give it nicer look, more dynamic "evolve" possibilities that have effect on your environment and time will slip away while playing!
great work!!!

@simon, there are no boundaries to the player's movement; the walls are just indicators of where the AI will wrap around to the other side. I want to make the wrapping seamless from the player's perspective eventually.

Haha, I loved the goofy little fish faces. Shame there's no game there - it was quite fun swimming around!

Graphics was decent with a really good take on the theme. The movement of the player was horrible but I think if the game gets more work to let you grow and eat other smaller fish it would have been a nice little game.

Evolving the character was a bit funny :D

I had fun seeing what came out of the evolution changes. I would love to see how it impacts the gameplay.

Nice graphics, great movement. This is a really good implementation of the idea in 48 hours.

The graphics are neat :-) It's unfortunate there is no gameplay in it, would have loved to kill some of those other guys.

Definitely has potential, you should keep working on it! Like the graphics and general direction of it tho.
