Save the Plants by joski

[raw]
made by joski for LD 40 (JAM)

Pep up your daily grind with plants! Keep them hydrated and happy.

With the help of your protagonist's spaghetti arms and two watering cans. Try to water all the plants in the office. Refill your receptacles at the sink or water cooler and keep an eye out for a watering bonus. For every plants that dies, you loose a leaf ... life.

If you don't have a controller, you can use "w,a,s,d" to move the left arm and your arrow keys to move the right arm. Use the "left shift" key for the left watering can and "right ctrl" or "numpad 0" keys for the right watering can.

Love the unique controls! Multi tasking is a good interpretation of the theme.

Presentation and graphics are smooth and solid, controls are cool, and you chose a novel and interesting interpretation of the theme. It reminds me a little bit of, say, a really good flash game. Definitely a good entry.

Looks great and is funny. Difficult to control, and the audio could have been better, but overall, good work!

Really nice idea and well executed! Was a little too hard for me (after so little sleep developing our game), but still a ton of fun :)

Absolutely fantastic. Love the dual control system and how hectic it can get with many plants, works really well with the 'release to zip backwards' making the quick backtracking a tactical decision to make, whether it to be to replenish water or to make the most of a infinite water power up. Graphics are beautiful menu UI and instructions are clear and follow the theme nicely, nice one!

Love the mechanics, I kept losing track of which arm was which. Art was very nice too. Nice work!

It's a bit hard to figure out with keyboard, but I think it's well put together and fun, like the theme and art is nice.

Nice to see something different and well executed. Great job!

It looked quite fun but i didn't seem to be able to water any of the plants manually. The power ups did work but as i said, no watering for me. I really liked the art style and it is really well done

It's much easier to play with two players so you don't have to split your attention.
I love the art style and that fishing sound when the arms extend :D

Very interesting idea, fits the theme perfectly. The audio and graphics are great. The controls were a bit messy with a keyboard, but it was fun :)

@noxbuds @daniel-jackson, I agree! Definitely need to rework the keys for this one. I hope you got a chance to try it out with a controller?

@Raed Unfortunately not, but I can imagine it working quite well with a controller ;)

Love the concept and your Aesthetic! Wished I had a controller but the controls feel very strange for keyboard. Overall, nice game!

The arms are sooo hard to control with a keyboard for me, but that made the game even funnier (: I really like the idea!! You did an awesome job (:

Very original take on the theme. Works very good with a controller, but i gotta say i'm very bad at multitasking both sticks lol. The sound effects were nice, and the "rewind" (not sure how to call it) mechanic was very funny. Good job guys!

I really enjoyed this one. Sadly I didn't have a friend close, but I enjoyed it a lot. The "fishing rod" arm mechanic is a really good idea, the fact that you can use it at your advantage to come back faster. I'd see this becoming a full co-op game, maybe adding different tasks using the same spaghetti arms. One of my favorite without a doubt. Good job!

Nice and original idea, perhaps use some snake mechanics, e.g. not allow one hand cross over the other. For me it was extremely hard to keep my attention to two places at the same time :p Great work overall!

It is a unique idea. My wife did get stuck in a plant she watered... not sure how that happened, but it could have been operator error. However it was nice to see a co-op game.

I'm so rubbish at this it's incredible. That being sad, the game is awesome and I love how the theme can be interpreted 2fold (the more hands and the more plants). There could be a third hand controlled with the dpad, but that just would be pure evil. Then again, maybe I'm just terrible at this. In any case, it's great.

Good mechanic! But seems something works wrong in my case, cause I can't use the watering can :(
Tried everything.

I found this game a bit hard to play (used firefox on a mac and a keyboard) but still, very well executed and it didn't seem unfair. The graphics are very good as well as the sound, including the funny voices. Good job!

Fun game. The controls are a bit difficult without a controller though. Also I'm a bit confused about the "reel" mechanics, is it just to add difficulty? What's the inspiration for that?

Overall I have enjoyed playing this game though. Nice job :)

So much quality work on show here, great job, challenging and satisfying. Reminded me a bit of playing Brothers: A tale of two sons, on the 360. I wish I had a controller to really get into the flow of it. Great job.

Unfortunately I couldn't play it with a controller so it was harder. For some reason I couldn't activate the right bucket, tried both right ctrl and num 0. Otherwise great work! I really like the menu and tutorial artwork :)

Very nice graphics.

I am rather bad at multitasking so I am not any good at this game, but it's a nice concept. Very great potential for expanding on it.

The only thing I noticed is that the music is somewhat repetitive and that the pulling sound is rather synthethic making it annoying.

But still a great game :) Well done!

Wow this gets incredibly hard as more plants appear. It fits the theme perfectly. I love how the controls are intuitive and yet not really. It looks superb and I loved the audio. The only thing I had an issue with was when my hand collided into something and the "*stretching*" sound kept playing even if my movement was blocked. Amazing job!

Played using a controller. A tip: You might want to use something other than right ctrl as the right bucket button, as ctrl + w closes the browser tab!

This was kind of hilarious and entertaining as well. A good amount of multitasking challenge; very cool concept. One thing that would improve it with minimal effort would be to add a highlight whenever your arm is near a plant or the water supply, so you have better visual feedback for exactly when you can interact with them.
