This game was made for the compo, the goal is to achieve a high score. You will run out of space by shooting, but have an alternative fire for melting the obstacles. The best way to learn it is to play it.

WASD - move

SHIFT - switch weapon

Left mouse button - shoot

The second number at the top of the screen is the angle of the gun (used for debug, and no time to remove).

Feel free to leave any feedback as it would be highly appreciated!

I'm impressed, the ice effect is awesome.

The graphics work great as still images, though the characters would really be more lively with a three-frame walk cycle.

The scenario needs some more context for me to get pumped up about playing it. The interactions with elemental powers are cool, but the rest of the scenario doesn't build on that, so it ends up feeling like most twin-stick games, most of the time.

i like the gameplay, simple yet effective, top down action game just like mine, very clean and nice graphic tho, i need to learn to draw something like this for next LD

i like the ice and fire mechanic, especially when the ice sprout ice spike on the ground, but i also under impression that we can burn the mummy, its just weird that we can't, but overall well done !

I was able to create a safe haven of frozen mummies around myself. The AI was not able to get in for a substantial amount of time. You may have to find a way to avoid spamming infinite ice bullets.

A good concept for a shooter. I like the ice-walls that get left behind when I miss, and then I have to switch over to the fire weapon to cut through them. Shame I can't burn the enemies, but I suppose that's not really the point. I did feel that sometimes the enemies would appear too close to me, not sure if that's just because I didn't notice though.

@mike-inprinciple oh I hadn't thought of that, I'll try to come up with a reason so you can't do that in the post jam version.

Awesome, loved it!:) Addicting too^^

Nice graphics and music. The concept is interesting although I think the best strategy is just to use the ice gun from close range to freeze mummies and not create walls. Solid entry.

Very nice game, I like how the ice blocks your movement. The first time I played I just spam shoot, than 2 seconds later I got stuck and die.. ;) It makes you have to time and think about where to shoot.

The graphics are nice, and the game plays really smoothly. I like how the bullets leave an ice trail that blocks passage. Could use some character animations. Why are the enemies dabbing?

@mateusboga thanks for the feedback, the arms are supposed to be like "zombie arms", but now I see what they really are doing...😕

I think this is great. Best I've played so far. I like the duality with the weapons. A gew little things that I think could be cleaned up, but that's most jam games (numbers in the corners, some random deaths). Great work

Very nice, like the visuals and the concept.
My movement seemed to freeze every now and then, is that normal?

The Game isnt bad, but it doesnt match the theme. The space stays always the same, the player is just wastig it. And the sound is a bit annoying. Graphics and Fun is really good! But sometimes my movement freezes..

@blinkenlights aha, I haven't tested it on both Linux and Firefox, that might be the issue. ( I've tested it on windows, edge and chrome and mac with safari.)

@jiri-one That may be, don't know whether GameMaker would have any problems with that.

I like the graphics, they are simple but clean, and set a good desert atmosphere. Also like that you ran of space a lot quicker if you missed, you had to take you time and pick your shots!

the game is fun but quite hard for me  I think you need to animate both zombie and player.

Just an idea -- add an ability to destroy mummies by freeze/unfreeze/freeze/unfreeze cycle to expand the gameplay options and encourage the risks. I think this could be helpfull since there is always a point of time in a game session when there is nothing you can do (everything is blocked around). Big slow mummies could be fun too.

I found a small exploit, but it still interesting to play  Here is my playtest:

The ice effect is stunning, and although the pixelart is minimalist, I think it gives a coherent mood to the whole. Sadly, the move controls are laggy and/or buggy and most of the time, the player stops moving when I hit 2 or 3 keys at the same time. If you fix it I'm sure the game will improve a lot. Nice little entry anyway!

Not bad, I liked the concept. I would turn off the, what I assume is, coordinate system that is overlapping the score a bit. I enjoyed it though!

neat concept and art! love to see good pixel art in ludum dare ;)
I love to concept that your actions limit your space but at the same time keeps you alive. the rocket gun breaks that by allowing you to remove ice.. It would be better just to let the ice melt in a certain time maybe(?). of course it limits the content but maybe adding some random events or harder enemies (bosses etc.) wouldn't hurt?

overall a solid entry. gotta remember that it's a ludum dare tho ;) good job!

Great Game, Really fun to play!

But, he glitch @mike-inprinciple mentioned is definitely a thing, got over 10000 score right now, and still going, I'll try to let my computer run this under the night, and see how far I get...
Otherwise, this is a great game, you really have to think where you aim, and make sure that you hit, or you'll have problems later. I would really like walk animations, at least for the player, he slides around a bit too much.

@nnnikki haha thanks, but I use GameMaker Studio 1.4 and the html export was on a humble bundle twice. So for 30 dollars I got the pro version, html and android export.

@killing-kitty I'm glad you like it. That bug is because of a typo in the code... in the post jam version the enemies will despawn when frozen, as intended.

@jiri-one I'm still jealous because the Desktop version for GMS2 costs 100$ and it's what I'm using right now, however the HMTL export costs 150$, and the Mobile version a whole 400$!!! But that's not all! If you want ALL of the exports, you have to pay 1200$ A YEAR!!! :rage:

Nice little game! Since you're probably working on it right now, may I suggest you add more interaction between the fire and ice element? Like maybe water splash, or steam bomb, etc. to vary the gameplay a bit.
