I didn't feel a real danger as I started to pursue the demons and they kept backing running away from me, I just taunted them all over the map.
But given the time you had I think it was a good end result that will definitely benefit from the time you can put on improvements :)
The good point is that your jump animation is rly cool :)
The needs improvement point, maybe some balancing, the controls aren't rly intuitive (I mean the aim). The scenario is an important part, I suggest you to find some 3D artist that can help you to start.
But the most important thing is that you have participated, finished a game and probably your next game will be even better. I liked it. Good job. :)
A few things I think I could see as points of improvement:
- Add a timer. If one of the goals is survival, maybe a timer could help identify how long you've survived, otherwise there's no incentive to stay alive long.
- Add walls around the edges so that you can't fall off. I got cornered once at low health and fell and there's no reset for falling off the world map.
- Turn down the specularity on the material for the ground - it's very shiny, and grass isn't usually that shiny :P
Otherwise, nice job! For doing something during the Jam, this is a lot of work to get done - so I'm pretty impressed!
Feel free to check out our game, as we too are struggling to get the necessary votes in this last day.
Anyway good job.
Most of the feedback I was going to give has already been addressed on the Post Jam version.
The "aim mode" works well, and I think it would be nice on a survivor horror game. You would just need to make the game darker and put some spooky music on the background with the "aim mode" being the default.
Another way would be to leave the top view, but make the character shoot always to the front of the screen, so the player can aim with the mouse while moving away from the demons. I think this would be best for an action game.
Anyway, good job on the limited timeframe! :D
