SpaceBadies is a scrolling arcade space shooter which reminds me a lot of the classic Raiden games. You control a spaceship and as you progress by killing enemy ships, the more enemy ships will come after you. The game is simple, yet it feels pretty nice to play and as a first game its great. The graphics, music and visual effects are very fitting, but I’d love for the game to be a little more difficult.
The game is obviously a little unfinished but I’d love to see you continue with this project and add different types of enemies, enemy projectiles, and progression for the player’s own spaceship by adding different weapons. The way I remember it, the difficulty in the classic scrolling arcade space shooter games don’t come from number of enemies, but from number of enemy projectiles.
Good job!
Very well done though Congratz and good luck!
- Highscore! Maybe even a Highscore table (I died and I didn't even get to look at my score :( )
- Feedback when you get hit (I think it also lacks a sound effect?)
- Different enemy behavior
And a HTML5 version (this was made with unity, right?) would've been great as people tend to have issues in downloading a "random" executable from the net :)
Oh most of the things I complained about are in my shoot-em-up too and especially in the compo version :D
Nonetheless I enjoyed this a lot, good job!
I think the connection to the theme is not that clear. The number of badies was increasing but I only saw two sizes of badies, and it didn't evolve from there. I think the game needs a better progression in terms of difficulty to relate better to the theme. A boss would be a cool feature too.
Due to this linear gameplay, one ends up doing the same thing pretty fast, which can get a bit boring. Also, I died and respawned immediatelly, without no warning. I would have liked to at least check my score.
Some hit feedback, like ship or screen turning red, would be nice to have, but not crucial.
Overall it was fun to play, the fast pacedness helps the game shine. Great work :)
Also, we'd love if you played our game :) https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/santas-factory
