Team

This wee game was made by Whitepot Studios, consisting of Vicky Potts (@ninjapotts) and Adam Whiteside (@adamside). We literally formed in August 2016 because we really wanted to start making games together, and we need to get good at it.

That's also a hint as to where the name came from :p

This game is definitely one of a kind... I only got to round IV before being swamped by Romans (a nightmare inducing experience)

As others have said, odd mixture of an FPS with Roman warriors.

Too many romans though!

Looks good, mechanics are fun and funny; however I am unsure if you made the graphics yourself. Keep up the good work.

Thanks @simple_blue - I've updated the description about the assets used. The menu/death screen was made from scratch but any 3D models were from ones freely available online and then we rigged them :)

It was our first game jam so I wasn't sure how much of a 'faux pas' it was to use other assets - definitely if we're doing the Compo in future I'll have to learn some 3D modelling!

Thanks guys for the feedback and comments. I too do not know or understand why our character is in the past.

Love the concept, game name is also pretty hilarious. Great work!

Nice entry fun and simple shooter, the jump should be removed or fixed cause you can get out of the map and run around the Colosseum by climbing on tents. Really fun thought.

Great game. The game itself gets really hard fast, though it is a very good FPS. Love the concept as well.

That was fun! You forgot to use the best parts of Unity though, the built in Image Effects!! These free assets would probably look really good if you turned on the Ambient Occlusion, a color ramp, some motion blur (for their swords), and bloom.

Odd but good to play. I just think the Romans are too fast, i can't run - they always reach me and I always lost health when I'm out of bullets.

Pretty good for your guys first entry, considering the use of free assets! I wasn't sure why jumping was added, considering there's invisible walls surrounding all the obstacles. Would be cool to dodge some archers arrows by jumping on top of a box and using a bazooka to wipe out a squad of gladiators :L The menu screen looks very clean and sharp too. Great work!

Got to wave 8 and 134 kills.

For putting together a bunch of free assets, the visuals are well-composed together and look really nice. I like the extra walls you've added to hide the spawn points of the Romans, which works well from the pacing stand point of view as well. Pretty fun, if basic, run-and-gun game.

I would like to see more juice in the game, include screenshakes and full-screen flashes. The visual and auditory feedback for shooting an enemy doesn't feel too good right now. It makes your machine gun feel very weak.

Obviously from our stream of breaking the game, I highly recommend fixing the fence colliders to be slippery so that you can't climb on top of them.

A funny and simple first person shooter. In a post compo version of the game, it would be nice to se some fun little story why the ends op fighting Romans. But overall well done.

WAIITPWCSTR is a very fast-paced game, possibly redefining the phrase "Don't bring a gun to a swordsfight" (or similar)

The hordes of romans are not to be underestimated, they are fast, and charge at the player without any fear!

However, the player character has a powerful counter - the mighty shift key! It's possible to run straight at them, guns blazing, without getting hit.

I had to quit at wave XV, when the game slowed down too much, with 354 corpses on the map. I think making them despawn after each wave, or a few seconds after death, would improve performance massively :)

Also, I think the sprint should consume stamina (or maybe a tiny amount of health, as a quick workaround) The romans really can't hit you, if you keep sprinting and jumping, if needs be.

The usage of the imported assets was great, the "ancient" feel of wooden barricades and such was right on point :)

I enjoyed your jam entry a lot - well done!

Nice little shooter, you should have a stamina bar or constraints, like no reloading, to limit the time you can run, because I just ran and kited them along
Keep up the good work!

Haven't circlestrafed like this for a while! I liked it. Got to the wave XI before getting swamped by romans and lag. Some variation in the gameplay would have been nice, maybe a slow hitting but deadly melee weapon or consumables of some sort?

Really stupid, but in the best possible way. This was really fun; loved the countdown in Roman numerals. 10/10 would shoot hordes of ancient Romans again.

Ha, very clever idea for a game that can catch people's attention. Gameplay is solid and difficulty spike is well balanced. Shame there isn't more weapons. Anyway good job!

Cool to have a fps in there.

One frustrating thing is your movement not instantly stop when you stop pressing your button (waiting the end of an animation???).

And ... more blood would be great :).

That was great! They kept sneaking up on me because they camouflaged so well in that environment. The sounds were a big part of the comedy for me, too.
If there were one thing I could add, I would have loved to be able to climb all over the structures.
Oh and it ran super fast!

An interesting idea, but the Romans could sneak up too easily. I could hear my own footsteps so I expected to be able to hear their's too.

They also seemed to be able to run faster than I could, so I just died when I had to reload.

Good use of the resources, it is a well made shooter. Also the HUD is interesting. Good work!

Really sweet game. You have to develop a few strategies to survive, and it goes a long way (made it to wave 6).
However, the death animations are really long. I would have preferred if they just fall over without any animation, because this way I could not tell if they still lived sometimes :D
As said before, the Jump action was quite pointless.
Otherwise, I had a blast.

Good game idea, arena is a bit small and game soon becomes repetitive.

Cool game, the Roman numerals were a very nice touch. I was surprised how well the game world fit together. Fun game, my best was wave 4!
