Bunny Powered Money Machine by rainfrogs

[raw]
made by rainfrogs for LD 44 (JAM)

PLAY IT HERE: https://rainfrogs.itch.io/ld44

OBJECTIVE: Fill the bar at the bottom to get more coins to drop. Each death increases the difficulty of the game, but also increases the speed at which the bar fills. The bar only fills while you are running on the ground (meaning your ghosts are running on the treadmills). You only have 12 lives and they run out fast!

CONTROLS:

A + D to move

Space to jump

In this game you must balance your need for money and your ability to dodge. Get hit by a projectile to move onto the next stage; your ghost will be placed onto the treadmill and a next rabbit will be born in a more difficult environment.

See how far you can push it and stay alive making the most money!

You've got a really fun visual style to it! I didn't really get what I'm supposed to do though. Once I got the initial 12 coins, I didn't see a way to get more coins. Just dying over and over. Maybe I missed something, wouldn't be the first time.

I personally am a very big fan of this kind of art style and it felt good to control. After several lives it started to click what was happening. For a simple looking game it has quite a bit going on.

[UPDATE]: Smoothed out the difficulty curve a bit. Looking to try to get a kind of dark souls iframe roll move in by the end of the day, but we'll see.

very hard, but i love the consequence of dying being making the game harder ^-^ cute art style!

Last minute update: the bar no longer resets after you die and fills twice as fast at all stages. I probably won't make any more changes to the game after this.

I can appreciate the difficulty ramping up when you fail, but when the red balls come up, it's over, man. I'd honestly just change the jump arc to make it snappier so it's a more useful dodging tool, and not a button that commits you to a state where you await the sweet release of death.

Interesting game, I liked the idea and the visual style so much. However, the bunny controls are not as responsive as I'd have hoped for a fast paced game like this one. I felt it took a bit of time to respond to my key input. Or maybe I'm just too bad at the game :D Overall well done!

119 was my high score, I personally disagree with the assessment that the game is over when the red balls start: From my perspective the primary objective of the game is not to dodge, but rather fill the gauge and collect the coins, so the final ~5 lives are the most important part. Just never stop moving and build that gauge.

I liked the sound design a lot in this, the effects stacking up really makes you feel like everything is getting more and more chaotic as lives go down. The art was very cute, the way the little life bunnies wiggle their ears is very charming. Overall a very neat game!

Game looks and sounds great! I found it quite impossible to avoid the balls though.
