[raw]
made by tapestry for LD 39 (JAM)

Steve has messed things up again in his laboratory. Only this time there was a large explosion and now the whole lab is burning down. His colleagues left him behind hoping to get rid of him once and for all. Help Steve escape the burning lab and live to destroy it one more day.

Controls

  • WASD or Arrow keys to move.
  • E or Left Click to interact with terminals and lock/unlock doors.

Instructions

  • Find your way out of the laboratory.
  • Keycards can unlock most doors, but some doors are only unlocked from terminals.
  • Terminals won't stay open for long, so think twice before wandering off.
  • Some rooms don't have an air vent, so you'll have to hold your breath.
  • Don't panic.
  • Also there's fire.

Unfortunately time run out faster than expected. The theme implementation is there, kind of. There was no time left for sound effects and polishing the game. Here's the change log from the original game that was posted during the submission hour:

* Change log 1/8/2017 * * * level0 * - fixed some collision issues with a couple doors; player could not interact with those doors, making the level unbeatable. - fixed some instances where oxygen was not depleting even though rooms did not have an air vent, causing the game to not be played as intended. - fixed some graphical issues. - Increased the duration that a terminal could keep a door unlocked, since it was too low and the level was unbeatable. - fixed a couple of graphical issues. * * level1 * - fixed an issue where oxygen would deplete faster than intended. - fixed a bug where a door was not connected to a terminal.

Lot of idea, maybe too much for so short time. More levels would be better ;)
But I Like the game...

I opened the first door, then couldn't pick up the pipette in the next room and/or couldnt seem to progress to any other room unfortunately. I liked the sprites, and the character animation at the start was cute :)

Cool entry ! Good mood and setup, it took me a bit of time to understand that i could take back the keycards but after that it was cool ! Graphics were really nice especially the character's animations. Got a bit lost in the levels with the terminals when i didn't see where they were connected. Well done !

good game fun, good graphics but i think you may have been a bit too ambitious for the amount of time, another day or two and it would have been far better!

I couldn't quite figure out how to get past what I think was the last door. Otherwise it was a fun and nice looking game

Great looking game ! Seriously, the pixel art + the light effects are very impressive. Nice animations, the concept is very interesting, putting the keycard into the doors but also being able to retrieve them is good idea, adding more depth to the puzzle. Nice job !

Amazing art and audio! Shame I wasn't able to pickup the second item in the hall after opening the first door, but it was still a fun game!

Definitely the beginning of a really fun game! It's a shame it's so rough around the edges, I had to read the comments just to figure out how to get past the second door, but the graphics and animations were great and the puzzles are good fun. Well done on a solid first entry to Ludum Dare! (Just remember to brush up on your time management before the next one!)

Really fun and challenging at the same time. Although I think the air gameplay feature doesn't exactly fit the theme, it certainly adds the stress to the mix and combined with the puzzles and the search for keycards, I found it very entertaining overall. Keep it up!

Overall, not bad. The graphics are good and the music is relatively sophisticated for a Ludum Dare game, considering that it's not chiptune. :P

The main thing is that it's kind of strange to have to sort of figure out where to go and what to do given the low light levels and limited lifetime. I couldn't figure out how to get past the first level - I know that there are terminals and keycards and all this but I can't tell which doors need terminals or which door goes with which terminal or even which doors I should be trying to go through, and then I die before I can even see if a terminal I activated opened any doors.

So perhaps some sort of maps or something that could at least give a hint towards where you're supposed to go could be helpful (as long as some challenge is still there, of course).
