Graphics are quite good.
I played the Windows version. There are a couple of things to note. The **Adventure of temple.exe** link will not work. Open up the **game** folder and run ld40.exe. When the command line shows up, type in the width first, then hit **Enter**. It will move onto the next line. You can then type in the height and hit **Enter** again. I had to try a few variations to make it work.
Gameplay wise, I had some trouble doing quick movements. I would try to quickly turn around and swing, but sometimes it swung in a different direction than I wanted it to. I liked the random arenas, but I felt like I never got a chance to explore them. All the enemies walk to the player so the player doesn't have to move far.
Perhaps its largest issue as it currently stands is the really unclear interface as to how to input the window size. I'm not even entirely sure why this is necessary - it appears that resizing the game window works fine, and because it has a minimum size anyways, you might as well just pretend that the user had chosen the minimum size. (There's also other things you could do that would be better, such as reading the user's screen size and choosing window size based on that).
There are two other things that would be improvements:
- Audio
- Simply more varied gameplay and larger arenas, although this is likely quite a bit of work
I really liked the graphics, the game mechanics are easy to understand but effective.
I've had a little issue to launch the game, like @philippe, I had to look for the ld40.exe
Stun hit hit hit.
Good job.
My favorite part to this was the nice hand-drawn art, which was charming and had some nice animations. The monsters looks cool, and I thought it was a nice design touch how they will sometimes back off and come back at you.
My first few play-throughs I got killed by just using attack all the time. But as I learned the rules with dodge and stun, I was able to do much better. Unfortunately, the game froze and crashed on my farthest run. What a shame, because I was getting into it and would have gone further with the experience.
Nice short levels, and another good design decision to have me fully heal with each new level. That let you make the enemies tough, but even if I make a few mistakes I can always get back on track as long as I survive the immediate situation. Smart to avoid the "I'm definitely dead next round" feeling that would come from bringing a sliver of health into a new level.
If I could add one thing, it would be more feedback when I got hit.
