Quantum Hop! by Brooklyn

[raw]
made by Brooklyn for LD 42 (JAM)

Hopscotch the rabbit is on a mission to create the next scientific marvel! Her machine, the Growatron, has the ability to warp space and time to her whim... basic.png Unless, of course, it starts to malfunction! Your biggest enemy in this game is the window, as it will shrink when the Growatron is not amply powered, and can squish poor little Hopscotch if you're not careful! smol.png Quantum Hop was built in ShazyDrive, an engine I've been working on that's based on C++ and SDL. All graphics, sound, and level design were made by me for LD42! The base engine compiles to a controllable black circle on the screen, so all coding extrapolated from that was also done by me for and during LD42. I might release the source code for this project, though it's an absolute mess! I've got links up for both Windows and Linux users! Though please note, fellow Linux friends, that you'll need to have the libsdl2 dependencies installed in order for the game to run. It's a very easy procedure; just a few packages that exist in most repositories: libsdl2-dev, libsdl2-mixer-dev, libsdl2-image-dev and libsdl2-ttf-dev. If you have trouble running the game, try installing those first using your package manager of choice. Anyways, I really hope you enjoy!

Also, did you know that bunnies are crazy for bananas?

Very nice! The fun in this game was really only hampered by the force quit when you reach game over. Most game-design guys would probably preach about how the same level shouldn't be reused (I didn't finish first level, don't know if there are any more), but I think it was ok in this game, because it gave me a chance to feel accomplished when I learned all the jumps I had to do by heart. Lovely art, nice choice of sound fxs, I really miss the music, but still a great game!

Clever concept and solid implementation. Smart level design too.

Is there a win state? I seemingly ran out of places to go and was forced to lose. As far as I know the only controls are left/right/jump, maybe there is a wall-jump move I missed?
