Even though there is no goal or anything to really build towards. Very good sandbox foundation but the game part is kind of missing.\n\nThe visuals are quite nice and clean. The person sprite might need a bit more work ;) Adding parallax scrolling for the background city could be a nice touch.\n\nRan into few weird and random issues. At first I got stuck and couldn't build past the third floor but then at some point clicking there started registering again and managed to build more. And right now I can't build anything else besides homes. The buttons for other stuff aren't focusing, I think something invisible is on top of them preventing the click events. Might actually be the same issue that was blocking me from building the fourth floor first.","likes":2,"format":"md"},{"author_name":"jk5000","author_uid":"1000209","time":"2017-05-15T17:15:25Z","epoch":1494868525,"modified":1494868525,"text":"The idea and the graphics is good, but the main game mechanics clearly needs some more work to be done.","likes":1,"format":"md"},{"author_name":"Stevie Bushman","author_uid":"1014782","time":"2017-05-16T00:05:49Z","epoch":1494893149,"modified":1494893149,"text":"Cool idea but too much waiting. Getting the rent wrong didn't seem to have any consequences, there was nothing to unlock, etc... though isn't that how every LD game ends up?\n\nI did appreciate that there was some good freedom in how to build your tower. More than SimTower gave, at least!","likes":1,"format":"md"},{"author_name":"ProgramGamer","author_uid":1000263,"time":"2017-05-18T14:16:15Z","epoch":1495116975,"modified":1495116975,"text":"I don't understand how the game works. To be fair, I've never played simtower or highrise before, so that may be why, but I had no idea what was happening when I was playing. I see someone talking about a person sprite, but I haven't seen anything like that, and I built every building possible. Once buildings are built, what is supposed to happen?","likes":1,"format":"md"},{"author_name":"madalaski","author_uid":"1000595","time":"2017-05-18T16:01:43Z","epoch":1495123303,"modified":1495123303,"text":"I quite like this genre of game whenever I play one. I think you've managed to capture what Highrise is about (I've never played Simtower) but this game is really just a beginning and doesn't have much a resounding middle or end. I'd highly recommend developing it further though because you've clearly got the makings of a good game in here.","likes":1,"format":"md"},{"author_name":"tommakesgames","author_uid":"1005382","time":"2017-05-18T16:24:02Z","epoch":1495124642,"modified":1495124642,"text":"It's a shame there's no space for 'technical impressiveness', because to be one person and do this in 48 hours is quite something! It's a shame that this is a complicated genre, and the game is quite slow. I like the theme spin - although it's a little obvious. Well done.","likes":1,"format":"md"},{"author_name":"hunttis","author_uid":"1004192","time":"2017-05-18T18:09:07Z","epoch":1495130947,"modified":1495130947,"text":"Whew, it took me a while to get that I'm first supposed to click the pieces and then wait until they're \"ready\" and then I'll be able to place the actual rooms. I think it was a bit confusing that I was able to select a piece and then that was not actually the function that I was performing. After that I could start advancing. I was playing the mac build and it ran just perfect :)\n\nI loved SimTower and this is really impressive for 48 hours. If you continue developing this, I am definitely interested :)","likes":1,"format":"md"},{"author_name":"Loktor","author_uid":"1011401","time":"2017-05-18T18:19:07Z","epoch":1495131547,"modified":1495131547,"text":"Nice game concept :) \n\nI really liked your intro :)\n\nOne thing that kind confused me at the start as others have said, i wasn't expecting my houses to build up after time, also what i didn't get was why a shop for example was only taking one tile? i would have expected it to take on all columns the preview was overlayed on? I think a tutorial to your game would be great if you continue to develop it :)\n\nOtherwise solid entry for the available time, with some more polish that could become an interesting game :)","likes":1,"format":"md"},{"author_name":"C0nst4ntin","author_uid":"1006703","time":"2017-05-18T19:44:18Z","epoch":1495136658,"modified":1495136658,"text":"Nice game Liam.","likes":1,"format":"md"}],"format":"md","images":["ld38\/22372-e60ebce4189672d71127543bfc1fff12.png"],"links":[],"metadata":{"g_key":"36600","g_author":"1001418","g_event":"LD38","g_eventkey":"69","g_subevent":"COMPO","g_urlkey":"220408","g_title":"Vertical City","g_status":"USEAR3","g_place":"396","g_commentcount":"12","g_site2_node_id":"22372","g_hide":"Y","g_has_icon":"Y","g_rqueue":"0","g_random":"0"},"nds":{"n_key":"22372","n_urlkey":"220408","n_parent":"9405","n_path":"\/events\/ludum-dare\/38\/vertical-city","n_slug":"vertical-city","n_type":"item","n_subtype":"game","n_subsubtype":"compo","n_author":"1418","n_created":"1492874882","n_modified":"1495107997","n_version":"84853","n_status":"COMMIT"},"node":{"id":22372,"parent":9405,"superparent":9,"author":1418,"type":"item","subtype":"game","subsubtype":"compo","published":"2017-04-24T01:05:22Z","created":"2017-04-22T15:28:02Z","modified":"2017-05-18T11:46:37Z","version":84853,"slug":"vertical-city","name":"Vertical City","body":"![ld38.png](\/\/\/raw\/a85\/z\/e38.png)\n\nVertical City is a tower building game, similar in preesentation to SimTower or Project Highrise.
