Platformery by mhlbrothers

made by mhlbrothers for LD35 (JAM)
This is my first game I have ever completed. It is a platformer with literal shapeshifting. The goal of the game is to get to reach the yellow ball at the end of each level. Use A and D or the arrow keys to move, space to jump and left click or CTRL to shapeshift. Enjoy!

I'm not much for platformers, but this was a nice, pretty challenging ride, even if it is relatively short. You should consider for a post-compo version to expand on the idea, get more levels and get more shapes - for example a shape which can destroy icicles but cannot jump and moves real slowly, etcetera.

All in all a pretty good effort for a first completed game :)

Hi there, Got to play a few screens eventually but has issues. Game crashes when full screen. The end of level text vanishes for me in less than a second and the detection on the spikes is PUNISHING! nice entry though and keep at it.

Quite unoriginal and not innovative but good game for first time.

This sure gets challenging! The movement feels a little unusual for a platformer, but once you get used to it it works well and the game is a lot of fun in an infuriating "just one more try" kind of way!

I think the characters move too fast in the air, it makes me feel as if I am not in control of them.

Not bad for a first game! The controls felt a bit odd at first but totally work with the level design - kinda felt like skating across the levels once I got used to it.

Try as I might, I couldn't beat the last level - but I've never been great at platformers.

Nice game, and thanks for the Linux port! :)

To be honest, it doesn't utilize the theme to its full potential. The triangle jumps higher and maybe faster, but I don't see why a triangle has this distinctive quality. Since the qualities are not logically connected to the shapes, the shapes are mere indicators of game states. This way, the shape change doesn't even matter – you could use a variety of other indicators for differentiating between different game states, e.g. changing color, size, or even just putting a text on the screen.

Moreover, it's almost always one shape is the solution, so you just have to pick the right one at the beginning of the level, and you don't have to change it while you're in the middle of it (except for the last level which indeed require shape changing within level – I couldn't finish that level though).

Anyway, congratulations for your first completed game – you reached a milestone, now you can make (and finish) more games. :)
