Temple of the Sky People by MiniBobbo

[raw]
made by MiniBobbo for LD36 (JAM)
Temple of the Sky People is a simple Metroidvania. The basic story goes that you are a caveman who needs a crystal from an ancient temple to heal your sick child or something. The story was cut for time, so it doesn't matter.

The ancient technology is actually super advanced alien tech, so you start as a caveman with a club and end with alien tech. Yay!

I still need to add sounds and the final win condition, but I'm traveling today so I might not get to upload the latest version, so I wanted to put something up.

Hi, nice game and congratulations ! Simple mechanics that still offered a decent amount of challenge. We're realizing a video with several games of the Ludum Dare #36. We made the same thing at the previous jam.

Can you add your game on indiexpo.net ? (it's free)
So we can include also your game in the video ;)
p.s. write #LDJAM in the game's description.

That was some significant challenge, especially climbing out of the pit. And impressive amount of content even for a jam.
The club swings kinda call for deflecting the projectiles. :D

Interesting level design even though the screen is a little bit too small. Good potential for a classic platformer !

A short little game, but it proves your concept. The platforming is pretty good, but Metroidvania-wise it could use less linearity. I have a feeling you'll fix that if you continue working on it, though! Solid art and gameplay. Also, screw you for the bait and switch for the club! XD

A short Mertoidvania demo. It has enough potential for a complete game.

I really liked that message about the club not really doing anything. :-P

Simply amazing! I too went for an old-school platformer vibe, so you definitely struck my heart with this one! Love the theme, love the art, love the gameplay. Great Job!

The game was great and the victory screen wasn't disappointing at all.

Very nice game! Shame it was so short.
With a bit more polish on the mechanics (which are not bad by any means) and a bit more content this would be an amazing game!

The level design is solid, specially the first half, where you fall to the pit, and then can only go back with the double jump, it does an excellent job at teaching the mechanics without actually telling the player what to do. I always appreciate that.

My only minor complaint is that it is annoying that if you hold the jump button, the player keeps jumping over and over, which a lot of times leads to undesired jumps that can bite you in the arse (at least for me!).

Also, nice graphics for the given time. Excellent job overall!

There is a lot of challenge here. I think last part was not too well balanced but overall is a nice entry.

I had to laugh at the club-swinging part. I thought: "Oh nice, there are enemies in this platformer." and then the next message says, there are no enemies. "Ok!". :D Nevertheless I swang that club several times throughout the game like a crazy old Stone Age guy!

Liked the controls, they just felt right. The part where you had to climb out of the pit, with all that acid dripping down, was the most challenging part I think. Gameplay just felt good, especially because of the club-swinging. ;) The art is very beautiful. Some background music would've been nice though.

Nice animations! It's challenging after getting the double jump (when you need to go up)

Really solid concept, plus the graphics and animation were top notch, just too bad there was no music,

with a tad more polish this is the base for a good full game, also i liked the checkpoint system and the permanent upgrades system :)
