Sitting in a soft, warm chair is a large, bearded man clad in red. A weary sigh escapes his lips as he sinks deeper and deeper into the chair, finally feeling the full weight of his deep exhaustion. Manufacturing presents for a whole world of children is no easy feat. Not to mention the time and effort required to take care of a whole bunch of flying reindeer, not many people realize the sheer amount of attention those things need. If only- BZZZZT

The Game

Santa has gotten some new technology on board for Christmas. As Santa, you will deliver presents directly through chimneys using his new Present Delivery Cannon™. Each house has a certain amount of presents that you are to deliver. Your score starts at 100 points per potential delivery you are to make, and for each present you fail to deliver you have those 100 points subtracted. For every present you waste either by missing or delivering to a house you've already finished delivering to, you lose further points.

At the end of your delivery route, provided your performance this year was satisfactory, you are given the option to increase present production for next year. This will increase the amount of presents you have, and so also the amount of presents you need to deliver. But producing more also takes more time, so by doing so you'll have to go through your delivery route faster. The more presents you produce, the worse delivering them is gonna be.

Gameplay Tips

A lot of people seem to have a hard time with the game, so here are some tips to make it easier.

  • Do not spam. Wasting presents is a bad thing, so try to carefully aim every present you fire off. Although after the first few runs you're going to have to spam in order to deliver all presents in time, but even then you should be as conservative as possible.

  • The present flies along a straight line. It may seem like the presents fly off to the side, but they don't. That's actually you moving sideways, not the present. So if your crosshair is to the right of the chimney when you fire, you will miss 100% of the time (unless you get a lucky bounce). Your crosshair has to be aligned with the chimney when you fire for the present to hit.

  • You are controlling a cannon, not a gun, so it fires a slower projectile, not a bullet. As such, the further away your target is, the higher above it you have to aim to compensate for gravity. If you're close you can aim directly into the chimney, but most of the time you will have to aim at some point above it.

  • The more you have, the worse it is. At some point the game will get impossibly difficult. The trick to getting a high score and not ruining Christmas is knowing when to quit.

Still struggling?

If the game still feels impossible to you, it might either run wrong or you might have interpreted the tips wrong. If so, here's a video of me playing with 800 DPI on my mouse, using the strategy explained in the above section:

https://youtu.be/9cZ8G6eGpBU

If it's impossible for you to aim like I do in that video, then something is wrong with how your game runs. I'd love any details in that case, so that I can find the issue and learn from my mistakes.

Controls

  • Use your mouse to aim the cannon / look around
  • Left mouse button launches a present

Woah this looks great!
Had a hard time aiming with those controls though.

Good fun! Harder than it looks :D Also, I felt that I was delivering to Gollum-town. But that is ok, he needs presentses too.

Funny game! The graphics are nice and the music is fitting. However, I felt like the trajectory of the presents was weird; it made the aiming feel kind of unnatural.

Graphics are nice, music and sound (voice) effects fits very well! XD

As @adrien-dittrick said, there's something wrong with the mouse aiming control, I can't get if it moves too fast or too accelerated, but this together with exaggerated motion blur and presents' falling curve, made aiming really difficult. It was impossible for me to not waste too many presenst. Like, I'm able to slip in 1 out of 10 :)

The aiming feels a little bit off because you are moving and its a slow projectile, so it doesn't feel like it goes straight. However, it does actually go straight (albeit in an arc). If you aim directly at the chimney, or somewhere above depending on how far away you are, you are going to hit. If your crosshair is to the right or left of the chimney when you fire, you will 100% certainly miss.

I like the idea, but its a little tough to break even. Way too easy to waste presents, and the comparative punishment is pretty harsh. That said, it's probably a good xmas for any orphans living on the street in my santa's world!

@eerongal Seems a lot of people struggle, so I updated the game info with some tips. The first two or three runs should be easy if you play it right. It's supposed to get ridiculously, maybe even impossibly difficult after that though. The moral of the story is that mass production does bad and not good, so don't do it.

The aiming feels weird as others pointed out but it's fun!
Funny sounds when the presents gets delivered

@nekoballs Could you explain how it feels weird to you? I fear I suffer from being too used to it, because it feels just fine to me :P

@mars I guess it's because the velocity of cart doesn't affect the presents you throw. It kinda creates a weird feeling in my head if it makes sense :P I tried it again and it feels better this time, I guess you get used to it!

Pretty good job! Looks amazing, but the controls don't feel really smooth. A bit more tweak could do the job.

@nekoballs Yeah, that makes sense. When I first made the cannon, I felt like their trajectory was off too, but once I tried putting on a crosshair and aimed at the targets I realized it was all in my head. I guess it only makes sense that everyone who's playing for the first time goes through that same feeling of the controls being off. Something to consider for next time, I guess :D

My laptop had some troubles with framerate, but it didn't stop the game from being fun. Especially enjoyed the voice over work :). Thanks for the game!

Fun idea, but the "you get minus points for wasted presents" doesn't feel very impactful. Maybe it would be cooler to have something more concrete happen when you missed, like damaging the houses or wrecking cars. Also, the motion blur really recked my FPS for some reason, so maybe tone that down or make it an option.

Very fun idea :) The aiming was quite hard at first, but I always fired a hand full of presents to make sure at least one would hit the chimney. At the end I thought it would be fun to fill the sleigh with presents, which actually was qute fun, before I realized that wasting presents would cost points. So my final score was -5780 :D

Maybe you could make the sleigh go slower so the player has more time to aim. I think the speed makes you quite franticly fire bursts of presents to not completely miss one chimney.

All in all nice work

@stmatn Yeah, firing off multiple presents is my go-to tactic as well! And I made a proper hitbox for the sleigh solely because I thought it'd be fun to fill it with presents :P

As for the speed, it's supposed to get a little frantic. It's because of the whole "the more you have, the worse it is" thing :)

@wheffle Honestly I didn't realize I had motion blur on at all, so that's a mistake on my part. As for the idea of making wasted presents more impactful, I like it. Having some more immediate and obviously negative feedback would probably go a long way to help people avoid messing up their first attempt.

A simple and fun game, that is very well made. Both the music and graphics is good, and I have no problems with the aiming. Overall a good Christmas LD game. Well done.

Great visuals and cool idea - a bit too hard! I couldn't win once :/
The kids voices were a little creepy lol, but added to your humour score :)

Even with the hints above I still couldn't actually deliver any presents other than by throwing hundreds at each chimney and hoping some went in. Graphics seemed to not handle me rotating very well which didn't help with aiming at all. Quite a nice idea though.

Fun! It was surprisingly not as difficult to shoot down the chimneys as I thought it would be.

@staircase27 If it's not too much to ask, would it be possible for you to make a gif or something of how the game looks to you? It seems that people having trouble with aiming might have the game run differently on their computers or something, and I'm curious what the issue could be. I've tried on three different computers, and on all of them I found it pretty easy to hit all chimneys with only 3-4 wasted presents for the first run or two.
