Definitely reminds me of arcade games. Takes a couple of tries to learn how to play!

Great game! I love the pico-8 games on here, I'd love to learn the platform. The pixel graphics are always really great, and this was no exception. I almost missed the point about using the beam to charge, but once I figured that out it was great! No complaints, I think you nailed what you were aiming for.

Very fun game, the graphics and sounds work well together, it felt like I was playing a classic arcade game. Trying to line up the beams so that I could hit 2 enemies and one of their bullets got a little annoying but I felt good when I pulled it off.

The game has a very nice arcade style to it, and while minimalist, even the two note "song" in game works really nicely given the aesthetic. The game does end quickly (or I'm bad), but what I would recommend if you choose to continue developing this, is to add some "set piece" enemy patterns that can be used for big recharges to perpetuate the game longer.

Also note, my high score was 3040.

@jorjordandan: Thanks! PICO-8 is really easy to learn, particularly because the source code of every cartridge you play can be viewed with the press of a single button. Very useful for learning purposes.

@dalbinblue: Your score is near my highscore, so that doesn't seem be too bad. The idea of adding a set of different fixed patterns was something I had planned, along with different movement behaviours of enemies, but the time for that got a bit tight.

Super nice concept! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvWeoxTQbD4

Not gonna lie, this scored some extra points from me for being on the PICO-8. It's also just a great game. Lovely PICO-8 graphics and audio. Maybe just a little too punishing, but being a retro/arcade-y game it gets away with it.

Hey! Great game! Graphics, audios are very good. Had couple of tries before I get used to controls and how to charge energy. Anyway, good job! :rocket:

I really like this game. Played a few times. I agree that having enemy patterns would be nice. I felt like I didn't really have a chance to really plan on maximizing beam charges. But it's pretty addictive anyways.
