Very Realistic Waiter Simulator by Nathalia Hohl

[raw]
made by Nathalia Hohl for LD 41 (JAM)

The game

You are a waiter and must work feeding others in order to feed yourself! People are coming to eat and you can't make them wait!

The more they wait, the more angry they get!

Shoot the food at their faces to feed them, but caution: if you shoot the wrong meal, they get angry too!

Do your job correctly and more people will come to get your services!

Grab the right meal and succesfully shoot it at your customers in this restaurant/shooter/time-managment mix!

:hotdog: :hamburger: :pizza:

Controls

  • Mouse to look around and aim
  • Mouse button to grab food from the piles on your left
  • Mouse button again to shoot

It's my third Ludum Dare with Felipe and the one I'm most satisfied with. It's not very polished but there are a few cute meshes and I believe it ended up really fun to play. We plan on developing it further, especially in the art department. I'm a beginner 3D modeller and know there's a long road before becoming really good, but making this got me really motivated to practice and make more games.

I liked how you used Unicode for the facial expressions.

Also, That is one sexy lookin' low poly burger!

Please make this a online coop game where you have to shoot ingredients to your peers to make the final product, it would be awesome, and potentially even a cool VR idea!

@retrogrademarmalade Thanks! Haha, I love this burger. Best mesh in the game. XD

@ghust1995 That sounds really fun and I'd love to, someday. I don't own a VR set yet.

Was super fun to chuck food at ungrateful customers. 10/10 would waiter again.

Did you try making a web build? If yes, how did that work out? I made a web build for my Godot game and it works great, I highly recommend using it for jams!

As for the game, it's good to see where you cut corners without compromising the final prototype, good job! Graphics are sweet and very functional. I do think the game could be more interesting if instead of single customers spawning with increasingly short fuses, spawning more customers at a time or in waves could possibly be more interesting gameplay wise. It reminded me of the first Spongebob episode where all the sardines come in buses and want to eat, and are getting really mad.

(PS the guy spawning right of the counter gets me every damn time!)

@willowblade Thanks for the comment and the tip. I'm trying to make one right now, but it doesn't seem to be working.
Liked your idea about spawning customers in waves and will very probably try it!

I'm glad you liked the gameplay and graphics. =]

Hey man Great game! I fired this baby up and played it for a while. I kept losing because at some point they start to spawn so fast that you hit the wrong one because it spawns in front of you when you are throwing food.

Overall good game. My daughter liked it as well!

I think some of these customers are actually too nice, only thing breaking the realistic immersion. Blender is hardcore so good getting these done in the jam timeframe.

Hey Lilyhohl! I finally got around to playing your game and it was a hoot! The little pizzas reminded me of a Canadian lunch-time delicacy(exaggeration) from my childhood and I loved the faces on the customer. Especially when they showed up RIGHT BEHIND YOU looking all murdery!
Very fun game and a good use of theme. The music was a bit repetitive but that was kind of fun too. Also I wish that the customers didn't just show up ready to murder you but perhaps several calm customers would show up at once for you to strategically manage.

Great job you 2! There's something satisfying about flinging food at people haha fun to play! The facial expressions are great and the audio suits the game. The only issue I experienced was crackling audio but I haven't seen anyone else mention it so perhaps it's an issue with my setup. I could go for one of those burgers right about now :P

@kyperbelt Thank you! I realized that could be an issue but then it was already late. It's something to note for a future version (that I hope will happen). Glad you both enjoyed it. ^-^

@ultrarat Some of them enjoy keeping up the facade longer than others. ;p Thanks! I plan on balance the difficulty, among testing other forms of spawning.

@rebecca-kremer Hey, I'm happy you liked it! I confess I didn't put much into choosing the right music because it's always so difficult and I had to focus in finishing other stuff. I hope we'll tackle the question of how to better spawn the customers in the future. Thanks a lot. =]
ps: BEHIND YOU!

@Balance686 Thanks! Yeah, I find it quite satisfying myself. XD I'm sorry about the audio, really don't know about it.
ps: I pretty much fell in love with low poly fast food in the proccess, although I didn't like all of my results. :p

I also wanted to say that I'll play everyone's games, probably this weekend. Haven't got much sleep lately and college just came back. @rebecca-kremer, you're top of my list, since I promised and already took a peek at it. = ]
@edit: I had mentioned you wrong!

The art is sooo lovely! Very nice, haha
I thought it has a quickly "difficulty curve", but it's fun and cute at all.

Keep the good work!

"*Where's my pizza?*" "*Here, I'll send you direct to your mouth*"

It's really fun and I really enjoyed this game. Nice work!

So, I threw a pizza at a person asking a pizza in the farthest area of the level. As I clicked, someone immediately popped in front. I got super-jumpscared.

Regardless, I had a fun time checking it out. Funny sounds, and the text faces were hilarious to watch. I overall liked the idea of just throwing burgers and pizzas to their faces, and kinda wanted it to become more fast paced faster. Still, it was a great time.

If I were to give some feedback, it would be to add a few lives or something. It was a bummer that one of my runs ended so suddenly because of some random spawn in the worst possible location. Still, no biggie.

Great to see that you've become a regular. It'll be great to see more from your team on the future. [My team](twitter.com/whalesandgames) are eager to see what you come up with next. Cheers! :whale:

I love it! Everything about this is, on its own, pretty simple, but it comes together as a great package - exactly what a good Ludum Dare game should be.

I played this one for a while and got pretty good at it, so I think I'm going to apply for some waiter jobs now.

Hah! Love chucking the food at people. I would happily play a full version of this - it's very cathartic, having worked with the general public before. The first time I loaded the game, I wasn't able to pick up burgers at all, but reloading fixed that. Not sure what was up with that. No biggy though. Sounds were super cute too.

Thank you a lot for the feedback and nice words, guys. I'm really happy and motivated to go on making games and getting better on it, as well as modelling.

@ChicoMCastro Thanks! You know where the emoticons idea came from. :p Wanna use it in all my games now. Certainlly gonna be my downfall~

@Amazura Thank you. Here's your pizza! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

@Moski HAHAHAH Yeah, the inconvenient spawning is kind of a issue. But the face is priceless. Is it bad that I'm still smiling at the characters? The emoticons are too damn cute. Yeah, we're here to stay! I'll certainly check on your team. Thanks for the feedback. ^-^

@rjhelms Wow, thanks a lot! I'm certain you'll succeed. After all as the name says, it's perfectly realistic, so you shouldn't have any problems performing this job in the real world.

@Yirggzmb I'm not sure I'm glad you can relate. :p Thank you!

Very cute and funny! Good graphics (especially the food models) and a fun idea! The sound effects are very charming. Maybe try to prevent the customers from spawning while there is currently food in the air to prevent unfair game overs? Also, highlighting the food so that you know which is selected would be a good idea. I accidentally grabbed a hot dog when I meant to grab a burger once. I thought I had my mouse over the burgers, but I guess the hit box is a little large? Either way, great game!

Funny little game, for some reason on my first run I couldn't select hamburger, only hotdog and pizza, but restarting the game fixed it
