Tesla Defence by Sun-Wukong

[raw]
made by Sun-Wukong for LD 39 (COMPO)

Protect your base by charging up your Tesla Towers. You can recharge at the generator at the center of the base.

Contols - arrows or WASD.

This time I tried to keep scope small to finish in time for Compo but it still wasn't small enough, I should be more humble, really. So there is only minimum core gameplay implemented. Other enemy types and proper level system got scrapped as well as metagame and pausing, now it is just infinite survival mode. I'm afraid it is not so fun to play.

Used Godot Engine for this one again. Graphics made in Krita. Sound effects are generated and edited ones from free sources. Menu music - Sibelius + FL Studio.

I really liked it, however I found that as long as you kept powering the middle tower you couldn't loose? but overall very enjoyable, it's a shame you didn't have more time because I'd love to see what else you could do with this!

The gameplay is a bit repetitive. But the graphics are really good. Overall, a nice game

I made a mess of robot parts! Lol. It's fun and art is well executed. I've missed some kind of visible score, like number of robots destroyed, minutes alive, etc.

Your self-awareness is refreshing :) Yes it's unfortunately not fun to play, the "best strategy" involves jogging up and down between the machine and the middle turret... That's about it. But really well polished, great graphics, wished there were more variety in movement and feel.

You're definitely right about the need to scope down! I've had the same problems too, and now I build a toy until the last 6 hours and I turn that into... Something. With scores :)

**First of all:** OOOOHHH! Another Defense type of game, so is mine! Wooo! Defense Buddies!!!

**Overall game impression:** Graphics are great, sounds are great, gameplay is smooth and creative. very coo and enjoyable. I liked it.

**Suggestions and comments on improvement:** Visible score would definitely be a plus, as mentioned by @exr . After awhile more enemy types or maybe another level with more towers to recharge? Awesome overall)

p.s. check out my game as well please.

Your win32 Windows download is not actually a 32 bit exe. Could you rebuild and upload it? Your game looks really cool and I really want to play it :-)

@gonutz are you sure? Since I checked it on 32bit system and it worked fine. I can't do anything with it alas since it's how engine export it. Or are you trying to run in on WinXP? WinXP is not supported AFAIK, it uses different code base.

The visuals remind of something Butterscotch Shenanigans would have made. Game was enjoyable. Well done.

The mechanic was simple but fun. As a small compo entry it works and wasn't actually bad.

The game works well, I can see what it could become with more time. Very nice graphics by the way.

I really like what you did with the art. One point of feedback I'd give on the graphics is that all your art is flat shaded and the only thing breaking it is the glow on the lightning. Did you try making it more stylized and it didn't work out, or was your goal actually to push all your art in the direction of the lightning?
What would've been really nice for ingame feedback is to also show that the player character would be charging the pylons, but that they're already full. Even intensifying the lightning bar on the pylons while the character would be in range would've probably prevented me from only figuring out that you were supposed to be charging them in my 2nd playthrough.

@steff-kempink, thanks for the feedback. I actually didn't think much about visuals of the lightning but now that you tell me I'll try to make some kind of matching flat-shaded effect.

This was a pretty neat idea for a game. Though, just running up and down to power the middle turret seemed like I could go on forever. And I couldn't ever get enough time to power any side turrets anyway so I was just stuck running up and down over and over again till I just let them come and kill me.

The Electricity effect was certainly the star of the show, It seemed like you put a fair amount of time into that and the rest of the graphics were pretty well done as well. I'd have just liked to see a little more gameplay. Still it was pretty good. Well done.

Oh yes, I am using Windows XP 32 bit for all the games, if that is not supported then I will unfortunately not be able to play your game :-(

Wow, these are really nice graphics! ^_^ The gameplay wasn't very interesting, I found that just by transferring power to the lower Tesla coil I could "stay alive" pretty much indefinitely. The music in the menu is really good and fitting, you should have put it in the game, as well! :O Nice interpretation of the theme!
