9 Lives by Alex Davies
Hello! I'm Alex, and this is my first Ludum Dare! My game isn't very good, and sorry for the lack of actual playable content (the game is only 5 - 10mins long at most), I messed up badly with time management.
The Game: 'You are a cat, a natural enemy of dogs. As such you must rid your city of canines and restore peace to feline kind. Run, Jump and Claw your way through the city. Just make sure you don't use all of your 9 Lives.' You play as a cute little cat, and must jump over water-filled pits (cats don't like water) and claw through countless canines to reach the end. If you die then you can respawn, and can do this up to 9 times, but there's a twist - the more times you've respawned, the weaker you are and the stronger the dogs get.
Buttons - WASD to move - Shift to sprint - X or Left Mouse to attack - Space to jump
What did I Use? - Unity - Gimp - MonoDevelop / Visual Studio - A lot of googling for references
Development Problems: - Lack of time - Lack of experience - Problems with collision w/ animations in Unity - No good ideas for the theme - Problems drawing organic-looking pixel art

don't forget to check out my game too :)
In my experience, the best way to get a game done in 48 hours is to pick a solid design as quickly as possible. I always spend the first few hours drawing detailed sketches of how I want the final product to look, and try to get it as complete as possible before I write a single line of code or open GIMP. Even if it feels like you're spending too much time coming up with an idea, you'll likely waste more time later by not having one. Once you have sketches/concept art/etc, spending the remaining hours actual building the game becomes a lot easier. I also create an "asset manifest", which is a concrete list of every sprite/sound effect/features I predict I'll need for the final game. With more experience, you'll gain a stronger sense of what you can/can't realistically complete within the time limit.
Also, GO CATS :)
You did a really great job on that, I enjoyed the game and will play it more (:
UI is very clean.
I didn't tried to kill first cats, only to fight the boss.
Boss not too hard, perfect.
An hit effect could have been nice to know if we hit the ennemies or not.
Good job and wish you luck
It was really hard playing this with the keyboard. The controller worked, but the buttons were mapped to weird buttons. If this was fixed, I would have a much better time playing.
It would have been nice to toggle sprint too.
Was there music, because I couldn't hear anything? It might be better for your score if you opt out of sound.
