Forgotten Cubes by kariamoss

[raw]
made by kariamoss for LD 40 (JAM)

You incarnate a holy parallelepiped in his quest to save his dumb but friendly subordinates : the cubes. You will see many worlds thanks to the magic of teleporters, and attempt to save as many cubes as you can, but beware : the more they are, the most difficult it gets!

Nice game :) Lot of polish.
Music/Sounds and arts fit well.

Not the first time I see this concept but it works.
It's very hard from the level 2. Maybe an easier level between lvl 1 and 2 could be good.

Good job team, I enjoy playing your game.

I would say that this game does not fit theme all that well, considering the last level has less cubes than the 2nd and is WAYY Harder. The game was a bit buggy but the mood was nice at least.

Thanks for the bug report ! We noticed this bug before, but didn't manage to stop it :/ Problems with colliders i guess.

@harusame

Very nice game! I can easily see this as a relaxing puzzle game with a gazillion levels where you spend most of your time looking at the beautiful scenery and trying to figure out what to do next. Great job!

Very nice atmospheric game. The 3rd level was just too hard for me. :)
I didn't get it the first 20 seconds, but then it dawn on me.

Very nice entry!
Keep up the good work.

Very nice but also quite hard. I liked the overal feel of the game. This would make a good casual game with a bit of work.

Hello, nice game! The mechanic to press yourself against a wall to align and distance properly the cubes is amazing. Also, great music and level design. On the third level, a box fell below the lower platform.. I thought it was on purpose, but then I thought I was actually a bug u.u great job overall!

Thank you very much for the feedback
As we can see for someones it have been too hard and for others too simple...
We think that the levels where very straightfoward except maybe for the third where it require a bit of "skill" too put all the minions in goals at the same time.
Maybe there's a lack of "readability" of the level's architecture that made the game too hard for somes of you.
Thanks for the spotted bugs. Concerning the bug spotted by @aaforcebox ,did the box falled throught the floor ?

Really great game, fun puzzles, great graphics and music. Only problem was that the A button didn't work (you can't go back with it) so until I figured out I needed to use the arrow keys it was very frustrating.

@antoined73 I honestly didn't see how it went there... I was trying to undestand what I should do, randomly jumping to test the scenario, and then I saw the cube below the platform. Maybe it's a gap and the edge of the platform? Or a gap between them? Or even the cube falling too fast and skipping the whole platform hitbox? Sorry I couldn't help more.

Getting quite hard in the end. To choose the map you want to play it would be nice to have the buttons 1.2.3 mapped to it.

Fun game with a really cool concept.

I would have made the first level slightly easier to ease the player into the whole concept (Namely I would have started with one green cube)

This game reminded me of "Abe's Exoddus" & "Abe's oddysee" :P.
The first two levels can be cheated easily if you walk into a wall and align all the small cubes. Other than that it's a good idea for a game, altough doesn't fit the theme that well (the last level had less cubes than the 2nd one but was harder).
Anyway the 3rd level was the most interesting one, and the kind of mechanic i think should be more developed. The first 2 levels were most about skill and timing.
Good job guys.

Wonderful puzzle game idea. I especially liked the graphics and the manner in which the player-cube would appear at the beginning of each level. Great entry.

Interesting concept, but so many bugs here...

If you need bug report:
- Some problems with colliders (some objects is invisible for green elements)
- Problem with jump (don't react on jump when player run near corner and some green objects don't want to jump some times :D)
- If player move in object he don't move (because he bump with obstacle) but green friends move by player direction)

It can be cool if you create something like progress on level (like a 3-stars in mobile games). For example give for 5/5 green object moved to exit all progress. (For less object less progress)

Maybe some kind of menu in game pause will be good.

Pretty asset and music you have found. Look nice. Good work :)

It's got great potential! I found a few issues:
- The A key does not actually move you backward!
- On the third level, one of my green cubes sank into the environment and would no longer jump, making it impossible to finish.

I do echo that levels 1 and 2 can be 'cheated' by simply getting all your cubes in a line and timing your jumps properly. That said, it's got a great concept and idea behind it and I'd love to see it expanded upon!

Great job on creating a really nice atmosphere and mood too, with the assets and lighting!

For some reason I could only move left/right. Couldn't get very far. Getting the little cubes to follow me was really difficult.

The game is really beautiful, I love it's ambiance. I finished the game quite easily also I was sometimes frustrated by how the cubes would behave because sometimes cubes at the exact same position would not jump at the same time wich led to a bit a frustration. If the cubes movements were more systemic I think it would make a great ambient relaxing puzzle game, good job.

I played you game a couple of days ago, I had nothing much to say about your game, and I still not have much to say abut your game. But I have played a game, that you could use for inspiration for your game. The game is called Sofra and you find it here https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/sofra . And no it is not my game.

This is a fun and relaxing puzzle game, with a beautiful vivid and dreamlike art style. The first level is an effective tutorial, and the 3rd added an interesting new maneuvering challenge. I only had some trouble with the 2nd level- it wasn't clear to me why some cubes would fall and others wouldn't. I was glad I could still pass if I lost one. The game has a cute feeling, like baby cubes following its parent. Nice, fitting music too. The only weird thing is that moving left was Q instead of A, so I used the arrows instead.
