Whoa, this game feels incredibly polished! It's one of those gems where you forget about it being a Ludum Dare entry altogether. The overall mood is outstanding, it feels like a real, living world. You captured the adventurous spirit one feels when first exploring the World of a Zelda Game (or Minit, though because of the strong and coherent vampire theme your gameworld feels even more alive than Minit's). Thank you for making this game!

This was really, really, really good. I almost forgot I was playing an LD game. The story was great, the 1bit art was fantastic (seriously, I do a lot of pixel art and I'm really jealous of this art style), the music was simultaneously whimsical and menacing, and it was all wrapped up in a nice neat little bow. Def the best LD game I've played so far. What engine/tools did you use to make this?

Awesome in all regards basically. Nice art, witty dialogs and even little puzzles.
Sadly I have no speakers on my pc.

But it's not 1bit since the hearts need a third colour :P

You nailed it with this one, I'm surprised I haven't seen more vampire themed games. My one complaint is that on a few occasions I walked into a screen right ontop of an enemy with no way to have avoided it

Thats a really solid entry and pleasant experience.

For what i though, the use of vampires with the proposed theme would be a obvious choice, but you mangaged to make them different from the traditional approach, even being faithful to the common vampire rules (blood drinkers, garlic).

So, it's a really fun game. The story is interesting and set in a creative way, while being innovative in the use of (some?) logic with a puzzle and the vampire role in the story.

It is a bold choice to make graphics with only two colors (preparation for the two colors theme?), but given the theme and the execution, it turned out in a really cool graphics that both serves as eye candy in the game but also helps set the spooky mood. Also, what a fitting and nice soundtrack. Why are you guys not being rated in audio?

Also, i wouldnt expect such upbeat mood in a game involving vampires, but it turned out to beign quite humorous experience.

Excellent job.

@derek-volker Wow! Thank you so much for the commentary Derek we are really glad to hear your feedback, this kind of player's messages its what really makes developing games worthy!

Regarding the missing Audio category, well as far as we know (according to LD rules) if you haven't made yourself one of the categories of the game you should disable it to be rated, in this case most audio is from other creators(with a Creative Commons 0 license) and music is by Incompetech, his public music is usable in games if you give credit to him in the game description. Thats why we disabled the category for our game even though we worked in it so it could match with the rest of the game. Not sure how it affects the game rating though.

Awesome art and animations, i would just say that "hearts != liters of blood" , there's no way of knowing how many liters a heart has before you just die accidentaly hehehe ...
And maybe enhance the dialogue fonts ... they are hard to read.

This is a gem in LD44. Amazing art, sound... characters, everything! And it fits the theme so well!
I honestly can't say anything bad about it, it's so polished.
I hope you guys decide to make a longer game out of this universe with this art style, that would be awesome!

What a great idea! The 1 bit graphics are very well done! Love every bit of it! The only little problem I had was that enemies would attack me while the character was going to the next screen. Congrats!

Very nice take on the theme! I really like 1-bit graphics like this as I am not sure how you can make such good art with only one color. I also enjoyed how the process of getting the containers got more difficult as you go on. I didn't really care for the last puzzle as I didn't understand it and it was easy to brute force, but other than that this was an excellent entry. Good work!

Well this was amazing! From the start the artstyle really stood out. It was just not another pixel art, it was something new. It created the mood from the get go along with perfectly fitting music.
This was a great little short story and I'm really impressed you guys managed to create it in such a short time. I liked the dialog and the characters. The idea of donating blood and the blood containers was a really smart way to use the theme. I liked the grave puzzle, neat little thing. The only thing I was lacking was some challenge and bigger climax, maybe the boss should've been at the end with a little more difficulty.

Overall projects like yours inspire me to put my best into future efforts. If you were to do a full feature of this world I would surely buy it.

Just wow! This is so far my favourite game I have played here. The art style is amazing - did you taki inspiration in Minit? Because this game feels very similar. The execution of the theme, music, feeling and the technical side are almost flawless. As for a jam game I really don't know what to criticize - I would really like to produce such quality games on jams as you.

Every point of the game was perfect to me: you have awesome graphics, "creepy but not to much" music, charismatic characters, the town is really pretty, and the theme is perfectly used. You even have a hilarious puzzle in the graveyard 😁

Your game is now first of my top 5 LD44 games ❤
Keep doing such an awesome job!

More than I expected of a jam game! Saw you in Randomise User's video and wanted to play myself. The simple two-color scheme (well, three including the red) and scaled-up art is well done, all sprites are easily identifiable and I assume this style meant there was more time to put together levels. A smart choice with a narrative game!

Gating progress with the health cap is a very clever mechanic, and everything was so charming that I had to finish playing through the game until the end. Good choice of music too.

Wow. This game has more content than you would expect from a jam game. It has music, good sfx, a story, and good gameplay. One thing though. I encountered a bug where the lumberjack wouldn't cut the tree down for me. Overall, great job!

I'm pretty sure this is a winner right here. AMAZING game.. There's only a few things

* Music was a bit too intense, like I was in combat all the time
* UI when clicking yes or no was weird
* Harvesting hard in the last stage felt a bit like a chore

Other than that, this is perfect.. Amazing job

Simple and delicious! This is my kind of game! The choice of B & W was excellent with the mood of the game. For me it is one of the best uses of the theme.
Congratulations!

I have a game for LDJAM too. Try it, rate it and comment. Please.

I liked it! The choice of a vampiretown rpg is really inspired and fitting for the theme - Cute puzzles and I enjoyed tentacle tennis, I think a more fluid and interesting combat system / way of grinding for blood would make this game feel more rounded and satisfying, but otherwise a wonderful little gem 💎
