Your life is my money by squaredev

As the leader of your village, it's your duty to travel the harsh desert and sacrifice cattle to the god of the Fire Mountain to pray for the village's survival. But in this world, cattle is used as currency. You will need to part ways from it in order to progress, haggling with merchants to acquire resources or simply to bribe a lazy woodworker. However, you can also gather treasures (such as fruit or cloth) and trade them back for cattle. And of course, when talking about money you can't forget thieves, who will try to steal your cattle and take it to their hideouts. Defend your herd and kill the bandits, or risk losing all your 'funds'. But that's not all: the sheep, goats and cows you will conduct to the God of the mountain each have another use.
Prepare to spend money in order to make money.
CONTROLS: WASD to move
Left Mouse Button to attack with your spear
F to interact
Q to stop the cattle close to you from advancing!!

Update: we added a post-Ludum Dare patch that fixes some things. If you want to try it out, please do! But remember that this patch was made after Ludum Dare was over, so do not use it to judge our game. Use the base game for that. Thank you and enjoy the game! :smile:

Apart from this it's a fun game with great visuals and sounds!
One weird thing I noticed. After you cross the bridge if the guy steals one of your animals but you kill him before he puts the cow in the fence then any additional animals you have follow you will just sit next to the stolen animal. Not game breaking, since you can still use them to do stuff but thought I'd point it out.
Models are great, while the cutesy animals were nailed as expected, you also pulled off the b u f f native dude incredibly well, kudos for that. Music is good, it wouldn't feel out of place in an Aladdin game or something, definitely fits. Fighting the bandit was pretty fun, I liked that, that felt satisfying. Very cool entry!
nice use of the theme, great job!
Overall you did a good job. :goat: :cow2: :sheep:
What a beautiful work ! :star: :clap:
I felt that sound effects weren't great, and got really grating after a while. Also, it was strange to have combat when there was only one encounter in the game, it feels like that time could have been better spent expanding the non-violent part of the game. Concept-wise I like the idea of expending animals to progress, but it felt strange that a cow would die after turning in an item and sheep being used to cross spikes felt a bit contrived. I would say that my biggest complaint was the movement speed relative to the world size, as it just took forever to go from place to place. I noticed that I got a slight boost when hitting space, so I ended up spamming space to go at max speed which wasn't great.
Overall though, I think this was a really good entry nitpicks aside.
- mouse pointer doesn't disappear;
- found a breach in the level layout, walked for a minute or so until walked to a dead end with a river. Was to lazy to go back, so tried to drown. After that, my cattle stayed on the other side of the river and all the new animals behaved really weird stretching the chain across the whole island and going away from me;
- after the sacrifice to the volcano, which was actually quite hilarious, the game behaved weirdly. The game over screen is on, but I could still interact with the volcano and hear the resulting sounds;
- dialog and animal sounds were a bit unnatural, but maybe it's just me.
Overall, amazing job!
I like the idea walking with those cows around like a train :sweat_smile:
Beutiful, low-poly graphics and nice music, great job!
I missed some Sfx : no footsteps, no "hoovesteps", rock smashing and breaking, no animals idle grows, no ambience effects (wind, eagles, buzards, crows, wind, river), spear attack sfx not well synced with the animation and no grunt from protagonist.
The camera should spin around the protagonist to avoid weird angles (maybe alllows the user to use Q/E to rotate it).
I had a bug which made my cows sitll carry the wood i gave to the bridge guy and leaving me without enough inventory space to collect other items.
More scenario animated elements to give an increased immersion like a simples vertex displacement shader on the trees and grass, sandstorm or dust particles floating around and maybe thumbleweeds passing by.
More clutter on the plain ground, like small rocks and more grass pachs and vegetatiton variance.
The game was very fun and easy to catch up on what to do.
Lol poor ships that were used to open the route xD
Attack animation feels a bit sluggish. I think making it more rapid would be a great idea.
There was a bug:
1- Sometimes animals are stuck in objects and dont move, or if lets say you push a sheep into the spikes and release it, then you cant interact with it anymore and you cant pass on, animals shouldnt be able to go into that hole.
Overall its an amazing experience, I dont see much good 3D games made in 3 days which accounts for any bugs, well done guys!
(You rated a lot of games gj on that too, shows how dedicated you are :smile:)
Also what a clever take on the theme, having your money follow you and double as other things too!
Fantastic entry, I'm very impressed!!!!

Anyway, from what I've tested so far, you have an incredibly pro looking game here 😮 The music fits perfectly the mood, the sound fx are really good (however I'm not a huge fan of the sound used for the girls when they talk), the mechanics are easy to understand and you have plenty of time to test what you have to learn before getting into the real stuff.
I will of course test the game again to have a complete view of your awesome work 😃
Great job, I'm looking forward to seeing more from you (have you got a Twitter account?)

It was so great! One of my favorite of this jam.
The art is excellent and the concept fits the theme. I liked the music too, however some of the sfx wasn't great. I was happy with the amount of content as well, it felt like an entire experience and didn't end too suddenly. Good job!
Couple of bugs I experienced (nothing absolutely game breaking):
- Falling through the world and dying
- Items from a chest getting stuck inside it, preventing me from interacting with them
- Mouse showing in the middle of the screen throughout the game
