Once upon a time you, as a glorious scientist, was sent to a faraway star. You have a mission to explore this star. And your crew is there to help you. But would you be able to beat the difficulties you met here? Sooner or later we'll know it.

You’re on a science station, dropped by ESS Frontier, United Nations of Earth flagship, in a far star system to investigate the local solar activity. Your primary goal is to file a report on Sun activities when the ship will arrive to pick you up. The team of brave scientists and engineers are ready to use any resources to achieve this goal. They might be a little too brave though, and would disregard their basic needs in this mission. Look out for them and settle this place for them to get enough Science points for a glorious homecoming. Good luck!

UPDATE

We've updated our game with some minor changes, check this out!

  1. Added Sandbox Mode. It's highly recommended to first check it out and try to get the grasp on game mechanics there, without the constant pressure of the main game.
  2. Speaking of pressure - the game is easier now and more balanced. Some objects were changed to better suit their functions.
  3. Vital resources were moved to the top of the screen. You can check the resource growth by hovering over the resource icon now.

Those are quality of life changes and they don't drastically change the experience, just make it easier for you to enjoy the game. However, if you wish to check out the jam version of our game and not the updated one, here it is or you can check the last windows link below.

Game objective

The game objective is (not very clear now) to gather 6000 of science resource in first 480 seconds. Don't forget about your vital resources: water, food and oxygen.

Controls

  • Use mouse to navigate (RMB to pan the camera) and to select things
  • In the left down corner, there is a hammer icon that can dismantle machines.
  • To build things click on the room, asteroid or hull socket and select the machine to build (if available)

Hints

  • You can remove solar panels and replace them with other things.
  • To build extractors you first need to replace the solar panel with the Examination Station. It can be build only on the hull.
  • You can move the camera with right click

The music sets a great mood, and I really enjoyed the wavy effect on the sprites.

I still don't think I've figured out what to do. I instinctively want to mine the resources on the side but they all say I need an Examination Station and I don't know how to build one of those. It would be nice if you could include some hints to help people like me get started.

Overall, nice work!

Hamsters in space?! I approve! Thanks for the web player - well done.

It is a bit complicated to get what you need to do, even if the hints you wrote here help. I like the idea of the game, and it looks really good. The audio is cool too, I just think it is a bit too complicated (especially when you start for the first time), the game would probablt have benefited from a tutorial or easy levels to start with.

But you still made a great job. Congrats!

Quoite good, there is a problem with the left part of the station, you can't choose some ressources because there are out of screen :(. The face on the sun had me laughing :)

I can play such games for hours. Brilliant!

This really tricky! Once one of my resources go red, the panic begins as I start skimming over components trying to determine which one is going to prevent me from failing. It took me a while to realize I could only build the resource collection stations after removing a solar panel. The sun's face is great (also the solar flares are a nice visual touch), and I love the hamster farm and generator :D Nice job! The resource supply balance concept is super cool, it reminded me of Evil Genius' energy management component for some reason.

An excellent entry! Incredibly impressive! Very few people could produce this in such a short amount of time, you should be very impressed. I believe there are a few bugs with the UI that need to kinked out but other than that, a perfect entry, you got everything right!

Quite challenging but interesting game. It looks and sounds very nice. I like how the sun's expression changes with time. It takes quite some time to figure out what each thing does and when/how you can build it.

Nice idea! Graphics and sound fit well together. Gameplay is a bit hard in my opinion. It's hard to remember which resources are consumed by which modules and you have little time to look it up. The more you play the better you know what steps to take. I tried 8 times and reached 2650 science. I think, if I play another 10 rounds I will eventually reach the 6000 science. So I think the progress is very slow until the player gets any kind of reward.
All in all a very elaborate idea with coherent graphics! I'll keep trying to reach the goal!

Even with the tips on the description, I did not found what I supposed to do... And the balance between the ressources is very hard :/
Overall, the game is very beautiful and de-stressing :) It remind me Planetbase

I was really enjoying it when I thought I knew what I was doing and then I died, couldn't quite get a grip on the gameplay, but it looked really good, and had a nice setting to it. Good job.

I really enjoy the graphical style, but I wish that I didn't have so many options dumped on me at once - maybe unlock buildings over time, with more science?

It was fun to play, at least after I knew that I can remove solar panels. The sun is so cute and the art is really nice to look at. The music is my favorite, it was really calming. Overall, everyone died but it was worth it.

Hamster generator 10/10 but the game is way too hard in my opinion. From start, it is trying not to die and you are doomed to fail.

Took me a while to get the hang of the mechanics (hoo boy, there's a LOT of stuff to balance), and I wasn't able to beat the game even after ~30 minutes of trying and retrying, but...I like it. Very interesting take on the theme.

This kinda reminds me of Oxygen Not Included by Klei, just with less little dudes running around and more semi-anthropomorphized stellar objects in the background. Seems about equally challenging and complex, too.

Nice work!

Other comments have already got to the heart of the issue - balance. I just couldn't stay interested long enough to figure out what the best build order was or which things were stopping me from harvesting minerals.

Hi there! I'd like to rate your game but the description says you've updated it and added some new features and changes. Was this update done before or after the jam deadline? I'd like to make sure that I'm rating the version that was submitted at the time of the deadline.

@ddrkirbyisq This version is post jam, sorry for misleading you. We will update shortly and add a link to the ld version. In the meantime you can try this one, since all the updated features are listed above and they are made for making the game easier for the players, never crucially changing the core gameplay and visuals. Again, sorry for the inconcinience and thank you for showing the interest in our game!

Oof, pretty tough game even after I figured out the sequence for the a decent build. Certainly takes a lot of tries to get right but I suppose that's hats off to you for keeping me wanting to learn the game. There is an large amount of systems, resources, and buildings here and I'm impressed you crammed them all in this jam. Needless to say, some warnings ahead of time for when resources were going to be out would've potentially helped the player exp. There were many a shocking death over here.

Nice game! It's kind of hard to get into it and I struggled figuring out what to do but I love the XCom-style base building aspect.

Interesting start! Next time please build your game with accessibility in mind -- I know some people will be unable to pan the camera around due to playing on a trackpad.

There is a lot going on here and it's definitely overwhelming for any new player, and perhaps even a more experienced player it seems from the above comments. This is definitely a game that would benefit a lot from multiple levels and introducing only one or two options at a time.
