Mitosis by Zirrrus

[raw]
made by Zirrrus for LD 42 (COMPO)

You are a little cell, happily dividing away. You do your best to keep your DNA in order, but sometimes mutations just occur. You shouldn't allow them to spread very far though.

You can play it in your browser: https://zirrrus.itch.io/mitosis

It's a game about area control, I think. Initially I had other plans but this is what I ended up with. You control the blue cells. To spread, click a cell. Any valid spaces to spread to will be highlighted. Eventually a new cell will be a mutated one and you lose control of it. From that point on you will spread one space, then the mutation will spread one. Keep going until you are satisfied or out of spaces. I forgot to put in a end state, oops!

Btw: Cytokinesis simply didn't sound very good in my opinion.

I like the idea. Not sure I understand what I was doing or if there was a win/lose condition? I filled in as many cells as I could before having no legal moves and then nothing happened.

Nice game. I played it til I filled up the board. It's really smooth, the animation and controls are good, the idea words well and I didn't find any bugs. It's kind of like *go* in a way because it's about area control. If you just gave a score at the end I think it would be a really fun game.

Interesting idea but there isn't much gameplay, adding sounds, different enemies and an ending would make it much better than its current state, also spreading to green cells does nothing different.

I like the art style of the game.

More strategic will get better.

Very good about the connection between the Theme and the cell.

Cool take on the theme. I like that you have to keep mutations in mind when making you move. It would be great if the game had some kind of winning condition. I go 1890 points in my try, I'm gonna count that as a win :D

Interesting concept! The art is no doubt awesome. However, the gameplay is not well developed. More complex rules and elements will make it much better.

Cool lil game! Love the cloning animation, really gets the right feel. Would have like some extra mechanics in there.

Also, can you scroll around? Feels as if I am missing a part of the field to play on? :)

Awesome little puzzle-strategy thing! Would definitely like a win condition, but the concept is coolf

I'd have liked the ability to pan around the map - there are a few hexes hidden away behind the score / player marker which can't really be seen but are still playable spaces. A very nice game, though - there's a surprising amount of strategy once you start thinking about how to really play optimally. Good game!

The idea fits the theme really well and graphics are nice. Gameplay is simple, but there are some strategic choices involved in picking the next division that add some depth.

The HUD got in the way on the last moves, and it seemed that there wasn't an end condition after filling the board. I got let expecting more levels (with more mutations, for example, or unexpected effects) or at least the ability to restart the game.

It has some promising elements. Keep up the good work!

The graphics are lovely and gameplay reminds me of one board game named Rollit that I really enjoyed playing in the past. Would like to see something more complete! Great work anyway, go to sleep :)

Oh very nice idea, I really enjoyed the tactical aspect of your gameplay. The visuals have very nice look with a smooth transition animations including the way you broke the repetitiveness of the symbols with rotation and variation of the colour making a nice looking tile visuals. Only if we had some simple feedback in the audio sound effect would have made a great difference, either way very fresh and nice entry!
