The Cave God by pranjalbisht

A short game about an annoying God and an even more annoying little human. You've fallen down a cave, and must try to esacpe. However, it's too dark. You must sacrifice random items at the light God's altar to get light, enabling further exploration of the cave.
Every item you sacrifice will have some reaction from the God- he might get annoyed and kill you. Or he may be super pleased with you. The game has 3 different endings.
Controls: * Arrow keys/WASD to move * Spacebar to pickup/throw/advance dialogue * Esc to skip dialogue * (Throw items at the middle of the altar to sacrifice them)

All in all, thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thanks for playing! I'll check out your games too as soon as I finish getting some sleep.
Art design and music are amazing.
I didn't figure out how to win at first and brought a lot of stuff to the altar...
Anyway, a nice little game, I like it.
The light mechanic reminds me of my first Ludum Dare entry http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-26/?action=preview&uid=21581
...Which apparently all my old LD links are dead for but it has been scraped by a bunch of flash game sites haha

verry nice graphics and the music is amazig.
it is so minimalistic but it has such a nice mood. had a lot of fun playing it. would love to see some more gods with different mechanics ;-D
One thing I would change though: I think you die a little bit too early when the light circle is closing in. I think it would be cool if you died maybe a third of a second after you were in complete darkness, so if you manage to make it back to the altar in that tiny window of time, you will be even more relieved because you know how close to death you were.
@finn-truman Yeah I think you're right, dying instantly when the light disappears does seem rather jarring.
The game is a bit too hard for me. I died about every 20s, without really being able to tell if i could make it, while going for the item i though was closest. Sometimes items are placed on each other, so that makes picking them difficult and i sometimes only brought poop back :D
After dieing so many times, the dialogue (while entertaining) is a hinderance, because i read it before already. The reset to 0 is a bit harsh, especially if i play not extremely careful. I would have expected to replenish my light on the light source in the dark, but it either did not replenish it, or it was not enough - in any case, i died when tring to go back from a light.
The graphics are fantastic, i really like it. Especially animations and mood/colors are great. The music is fitting and pleasant. I think a sound effect that indicates the smallness of the light could have been cool, or muffle the music when it gets dark - something like that.
Overall, very good entry :)
- Simple but nice to look pixel art
- God but humor, ok thats what I like in these games :)
- Fits in to the theme
Cons:
- Some longer gameplay will be good
Overall:
Short but fun game :) I like that simple pixel art, its overall very well polished.
I don't think the theme was fully realized here. Sacrifices must be made implies intent that you shouldn't have to get ride of something usefully but in order to progress to must. Sacrificing the light orbs did this well, but everything else felt like trash I was supposed to get ride of.
All in all, a nice felt delivered 2D story.
I will do better next time!
I'd have loved to see more items (well, more dialogue, really). Deeper gameplay would be nice, but it's such a wonderful entry as it is anyway. I got all 3 endings and I was indeed sad to leave the God behind.
The graphics are also great and atmospheric, very good work!
