Shifter Arena by Wedge McCloud

[raw]
made by Wedge McCloud for LD35 (JAM)
A simple mouse and keyboard shooter with one mechanic: Keep shifting!

Use the 1 through 5 keys to shapeshift between different forms. Using these forms depletes its energy and when it runs out, it begins to sap your health. When not depleted, however, your shapeshift slowly regenerates your health. You must shapeshift to survive!

Use WASD (or QWES if you are more comfortable with strafe controls) to move and Left Click to fire. Your projectile changes with each shapeshift form.

Towers will constantly spawn and fire at you. See how long you can last!

-----

Sadly, I lost my entire first day and had several other setbacks and distractions, so I did not implement several major things I was hoping to include, from secondary abilities (fired on right click), more varied enemies including ones that chase, as well as, you know, SOUND.

The game could stand to use a lot of balance, from damage and health values to enemy spawn and fire rates, but I did what I could with the time I had. The Shock and Toxin shots were added less than half an hour before the deadline and Shock had several major hit detection bugs I didn't solve until less than five minutes before.

But this was a useful learning experience. I haven't made anything action-oriented like this in a while and I had multiple very important proofs of concepts in here, most importantly in the re-useable projectile game objects that store their own damage values.

I am legit mad that this isn't a fully featured game. If there we're different type of enemies, enemy movement, elemental weaknesses, progressive waves, etc, this game would be AMAZING on mobile.
The different forms we're a bit unbalanced, but I only stopped playing because I need to play and rate more stuff. If you don't continue development on this, I'm going to be mad at you lol.
