One More Drop by ZAX

[raw]
made by ZAX for LD 44 (JAM)

banner.jpg

First of all, I would like to say that It was a really fun experience to create this game with my friend @A_ColtZZ And we learned too many things about game development through the game Jam.

One More Drop is an Arcade game where you use your hp points as a weapon to defeat enemies. It's a simple concept but We thought it will be perfect for the game jam.

The control is easy :

W A S D - move Mouse - Shoot M - display the map E - interact with things

The game is uploaded to GameJolt and you can play it In the browser or Download an exe file.

One more thing: I made a documentary / behind the scenes video and I will try to edit it as fast as possible and It will be Uploaded to this channel so consider subscribing if you want to.

Extremely Good. I feel like the inclusion of the blood may have been a bit gruesome, however it allowed me to feel like I was actually changing the world and actually fighting things.
Overall, I think it was a fun game, if slightly violent, and I extremely loved the art style. It's so unique yet so good.
Thanks for this, it was a great play :)

Finished all the waves! Love the art style and the enemy/character design, plenty of great visual effects (liked the charged weapon especially). Strange selections of music though...

That was fun. I appreciate all of the blood spatter. It made me think that I was making a mark on this world. The drawing style and animations were great.

I went through the game using the full charge, since it seemed to do the trick all of the time (1 shot every mob), and I never ran out of life. So it could use some balancing, I guess.

I had the same idea when i started but decided that it would be "too cliche" but this is well executed. Nicely done.

Something about this game didnt feel right. There is this extremely relaxing music, in a happy and nice envirionment. With a guy shooting laser at monsters that come out of caves, violently making them explode. This main character is mentally ill, or theres some weird logic in that guys universe.

All personal feelings aside, the game was pretty solid, the environment just didnt fit the game.

Loved the monsters. The blood replenishes so quickly there really felt like there was no challenge, which detracted from the fun. I enjoyed the story and the wise man swimming in souls made me laugh.

A lovely piece. Great from art perspective, nice story. I pictured the happines of that wise man. Probably soul bathing has some rejuvination effect?

If anything it was too simple. Maybe slower health recovery rate while moving and more mazy map to make kiting more difficult would make it more challenging. Otherwise i was quite ok camping on mobs spawn point and killing appearing monsters then running to other spot shooting others on the way.

But hey, thanks for a great game!

Nice environment, the shooting around feels good, screen shake is well done. Non-charged shots are a bit too powerful. Good game overall!

Good setup, some faster and more dangerous monsters would have gone a long way toward making it feel complete. I don't think my health dropped under 75%. Maybe monsters that you had to use a charged shot to even hurt at all?

I liked the music, and the graphics took me back to the height of the flash game era which is nostalgic for me. I think it could have been zoomed out a bit more, I played with the map open frequently.

Loved this game! It felt really polished! The art was super nice and shooting felt really satisfactory. The variation in the enemies was also great to see!

Why does the typewriter keep typing even though no text is coming on? Also could you leave the text there for longer, it is hard to read while it is being typed and after it stands still it almost immediately disappears.

When I skip text on the old man by clicking "Continue>>", the text blurs into one, it seems all of the texts are then typed in parallel and I get gibberish.

The framerate is very jittery for me, feels like riding my bike over a stoney road.

The first two tries I did not see any enemies. The way counter went 4, 3, 2, 1, 0, 00 and stayed at 00 until I reloaded the page. Then it worked.

The view range is very limited. I kept the minimap open at all times and played solely based on that. A medium view range for the game would have been better, see a little more in the main screen and you don't need the minimap.

The graphics are really cool! Also screenshake for the win. The blood spewing everywhere when you shoot the monsters is nice, good action!

The monsters always come directly at you, diagonally, first from one case, then from the other and back to step 1. The game has no difficulty whatsoever. I like to have a bit of a challenge, you could have made shooting more expansive, spawn more monsters or make enemies smarter and more dangerous.

The music and sound fit the game, the look and feel of it is all very cohesive. Good job on that!

Solid technical execution, although not much difficulty since you regenerate too fast. It would help to lower the rate of regeneration for the shoot=life concept to really shine through.

I like the idea of using your health as ammo, as it makes you be more cautious about shooting and not just spam the button. Having multiple different charge levels also adds to the decision making. That said, the game never really challenged me and got repetitive real quick. Having more enemy spawn locations and enemy types with different behaviors would have improved the game a lot. As it stands, the enemies were really just queuing up to die. That said, I do really like the art style, and the presentation overall was good. Nice work!

Well put together! I liked the consistent art style, although I think the blood spatters were a little strange in such a cute game. I also agree with the person above about the typewriter part needing a skip button.

I think that the different charge levels could definitely use some balancing, it felt like the rapid fire was the strongest?

Also, there were large swaths of time where I couldn't see any enemies, I wish there was a better way to indicate that.

Cool game. I must say im not a huge fan of this kind of graphics but as for this kind of gameplay it looks good. Music doesnt match the theme that good, as it is too calm but sound effects are great, i would only change the holding fire to less scratchy sound. Still enjoyed gameplay.

Game is great... sounds effects are cool... only suggestion from my side is to put the camera little far so that it is easy to see the enemies. you could also increase the difficulties of the wave to increase the fun... Good Luck. :)

Firing magic balls feels great, I don't think you intended to make the speed potions cumulative.

I enjoyed this game more then i expected.
Thanks for this game.

Artwork is cute, sounds are effective, gameplay is fun, but a bit too easy perhaps, even to the end.

I think the screenshake was a bit much, but after a while i got used to it.

Nice entry!

The intro and outro scene was really well done. The gameplay lacked some difficulty though so that was kind of disappointing and slow-paced :/

Hey !

I'm surprised to see you don't get reviewed for your audio, I thought it was really good. Sound effects were really good and I liked the song that was playing through the game. About that, nice choice to put a chill music to a game that asks for focus and dexterity.

So, about that, the system was really good. I liked also the fact that the game does not begin at first and you can ask the old guy to begin the game (I have spotted there some bug when you skip the dialogues: they become gibberish?). But like other people said, it needed more difficulty.

Begining with low difficulty is more than fine, don't get me wrong. But I began being bored about at wave 4 so maybe adding more ennemies ?

Overall, great game, awesome graphics !

A few other things:

- maybe make the speed boost a little longer and a bit less powerful.
- maybe shake less the screen for each effects.

Nice one to have add the map to see where the monsters come from. :)

see ya ^^

Fun. The art and sfx were great and each shot felt powerful. But I felt like I never needed the charge shots. I think that they should be more efficient to give the player an incentive to use it. Or maybe give it an AOE explosion effect. The polish level is top notch but think you should add some sort of hit effect to the enemies as well. Otherwise it can be hard to see which enemy your attacking.

Overall, I really enjoyed it. The simple story was a nice touch. It's always interesting to see how someone else might develop a similar idea.

Cool and consistent art style. I think you managed to keep a perfect balance between technically simplicity and something visually attractive. The gameplay itself was solid, but a bit too easy - some balancing is well needed. Together with the health regen speed the basic single shot was powerful enough to make the powerups and charged shots pointless. Giving the different monster types slightly different behaviours would have made them more interesting.

From a technical point of view, this is an absolute great game. I really love the character design, the effects are spot on, and everything is very well finished. I just thought it was a bit easy, and would love to play a post-jam version with more challenging levels.

02. May 2019 · 18:34 UTC
Pretty nice game, I love the graphics (the sound and particles effects as well ^^). You managed to keep things simple, and it worked. The only thing is the characcter's normal speed and the countdown of each wave is a bit too slow / long. I think it would be more challenging and enthralling if you just let waves either pack on top of each other, or trigger them as soon as the previous one was ended.

Great job guys :)

This was fun! Wouldn't mind it being harder, but I know that making difficult games is risky in jams. :P Oh, was also pleasantly surprised to see a capable mini-map in a jam game. Polished and great in all departments, well done!

03. May 2019 · 12:54 UTC
Good ! But I think it was too simple, there wasn't very much difficulty. The graphics are very beautiful, and I love the distortion effect at the edges of the screen and the shaking when you shoot. The music is also very relaxing and calm... which I fing very strange, you are actually killing armies of monster and the music is like : "Ah, it's such a nice day ! the sun is glowing, birds are singing..." while you are blowing monsters up and making the blood flow. This was an owerall good experience, but I think adding more difficulty would have been better.

I loved the soundtrack. Really chill. It felt like something you'd hear in Minecraft before the drumbeat kicks in. That with the graphics made for a really fitting mood.

As it was I'd say the game was too easy, maybe make waves faster and vary enemy types with projectiles or something or make it so you have to defend the house during waves.

Cool game. It would be nice to have a little bit more variety in the game, like different powerups (besides the speed one that is imo way too fast) and give the enemies some abilities to not make them feel the same.

Otherwise solid game with cute graphics.

If you click continue before all of the text is created, it breakes the text box and after you click start no enemies spawn. This is still the case when you go back to the mainmenu and click start again. After breaking the game the only way to fix it is to restart the game entirely.

![Schermopname (286).png](///raw/2cc/c1/z/247e9.png)

After pausing the game, the shooting doesn't work anymore; untill you press esc again. The potions are a good addition, but the fast walking potion makes you walk way too fast. The regenerating health is a good choice, but perhaps the game could be more challenging if damage from the enemies permanently decreases your health for that wave. The art was great though and it was funny that you had to collect the souls of these giant monsters.
